Loree Rides: Day 3
Loree Glenn of Mission Viejo is continuing her quest from San Francisco to Los Angeles - on a bicycle. That 545 miles of biking is to help and support the L.A. Gay and Lesbian Center and the San Francisco AIDS Foundation while raising AIDS awareness. Today, Tuesday, is the third day of Loree's ride and according to aidslifecycle.org:
"Day 3 takes you through the little town of Bradley, California, population 120 according to Wikipedia. One of the big events of the year in Bradley (if not THE big event) is when ALC rolls through. The whole town shows up and throws a barbecue for us. They use the money for school programs, such as field trips, that the kids would not otherwise have access to. The barbecue in Bradley is the only meal during ALC that most of the riders pop for. The welcome we received from that little town was just amazing. At camp that night, the teacher who organizes the barbecue spoke at dinner and brought the house down."
Day 3 update
Loree's husband Kevin received a text from Loree at about 11:45 a.m. today from the summit of "Quadbuster," a 1.3 mile, nonstop, steep vertical climb that's considered to be the toughest hill in the entire 7-day ride. It's somewhere in the vicinity of the town of Bradley, Ca, and the hill is known to get the best of even the most competent riders.
Check back with us tomorrow as Loree continues her amazing ride!
Loree's Ride Under Way
Yesterday, Loree Glenn of Mission Viejo, began her 545-mile journey from San Francisco to Los Angeles. Loree is riding for the L.A. Gay and Lesbian Center and the San Francisco AIDS Foundation for the fourth year in a row. Yesterday, her journey began with a monstrous, 82.5 mile ride from San Francisco to Santa Cruz. The first leg of the ride is a tough, but beautiful ride that offers amazing scenic views and difficult terrain.
According to the aidslifecycle.org website, "The route on Day 1 offers some of the best scenery and cycling roads that San Mateo County has to offer. The stunning coastal views from hilltops to the ocean are truly Northern California at its best! Tailwinds prevail as we pedal along scenic CA Hwy 1 on our way to camp. Highlight of the day: The lunch stop on Day 1 offers a spectacular and breathtaking view of the ocean so be sure to pack your camera."
Riding All Week
Daily updates will be provided about Loree's ride, and the word has already been getting out. Loree's husband Kevin mentioned that they received a $100 donation to Loree's cause from Charles and Louise Silverberg in memory of their son Danny who died of aids. Hopefully, as the week progresses, more donations will come in and Loree's ride will continue to be a success.
