A construction worker in Los Angeles suffered fatal injuries on the job after he fell off a wooden plank, into a hole and was buried under dirt from a collapsed trench. According to a news report in The Daily Breeze, the fatal construction accident occurred the morning of March 10, 2010. The worker was standing on top of a plank and attempting to work with a tool similar to a jackhammer when the vibration caused him to lose his balance and fall head first into the excavated trench. A worker suffered fatal injuries on the job the morning of March 10, 2010 after he fell head first into an excavated hole at a Hermosa Beach construction site, which then collapsed around him. The Daily Breeze reports that the contractor is likely to face several citations because they did not even have a permit to excavate that site. The worker was apparently standing on a plywood platform that was seated on the raised fork of a Caterpillar forklift, at a height of about 15 feet above the bottom of the hole. Police have identified a 13-year-old girl who died in a Los Angeles car accident that happened the morning of February 26, 2010, as Julia Siegler. According to a news report in the Los Angeles Times, the teenager was trying to cross Sunset Boulevard to catch a school bus when she was clipped by a vehicle and then run over by another. Police say preliminary reports show that Julia was crossing against a red light. Both drivers remained at the scene. The girl was taken to a nearby hospital. She succumbed to her injuries. An off-duty Los Angeles police officer was killed in a Los Angeles car accident involving four vehicles. According to a news report in the San Gabriel Valley Tribune, the fatal car accident occurred on Grand Avenue near Longview Drive, in Diamond Bar, the afternoon of February 25, 2010. Los Angeles County Sheriff's officials say the chain-reaction crash was triggered by a head-on collision between two vehicles traveling in opposite directions on Grand. A motorist was killed in a Los Angeles car accident after a big rig on the 710 Freeway struck his vehicle on the night of February 22, 2010. According to a CBS News report, the big rig was northbound on the freeway near East Slauson Avenue, in Commerce, when it struck a vehicle that was stopped by the shoulder of the freeway. Artemio Hernandez, 40, a tree trimmer, sustained fatal job injuries while trimming a palm tree in a Pasadena backyard, the morning of February 13, 2010. According to a news report in the Pasadena Star News, Hernandez was working behind a house in the 500 block of South Oak Knoll Avenue. The man was suspended at a height of about 50 feet on the palm tree when a ring of fronds struck him, Pasadena fire officials said. At least three people including a pedestrian were injured in a Los Angeles car accident the night of February 5, 2010, KTLA News reports. The major injury collision occurred at the busy intersection of Hollywood Boulevard and Highland Avenue. A car was northbound on Highland when its driver lost control, struck another car pushing it into a light pole. A female pedestrian was trapped between the light pole and the car. She was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries including, a possibly severed leg. The driver of one of the vehicles and another person were also hospitalized with injuries. A Los Angeles car accident involving several vehicles left three people injured the afternoon of February 4, 2010, the Pasadena Star News reports. The injury collision occurred on the 5 Freeway in Norwalk near Imperial Highway. California Highway Patrol officials said a truck heading south on the freeway crossed over into the northbound lanes and struck several vehicles. Two people sustained minor to moderate injuries. A pedestrian sustained serious injuries in a Los Angeles car accident the afternoon of January 25, 2010, the Pasadena Star News report. The major injury pedestrian accident occurred in the 100 block of East Huntington Drive in Arcadia, when a vehicle heading east on Huntington struck the man. The victim, who has not yet been identified, and described only as a man in his 40s, sustained head trauma and a broken collar bone. He was transported to a local hospital where he is said to be in stable condition. The 21-year-old driver of the car was uninjured. She was not cited pending an official investigation.
