Percent of Criminals Employed is Frighteningly High
According to a new government report obtained by CBS News, more than 90 percent of nursing homes hired employees with criminal convictions, leading to theories regarding the increased instances of nursing home abuse. Government investigators ran background checks on all workers who were employed on June 1, 2009 at 260 nursing homes across the country. The results showed 92 percent of the facilities hired at least one employee with a criminal conviction, according to CBS News. Read the rest »
Six Injured after Muni Train and Van Collide in San Francisco
Several people sustained injuries in a San Francisco train accident after a San Francisco Municipal Railway light rail vehicle and a passenger transport van collided the morning of May 20, 2010. According to a Bay City News report, the collision occurred at the intersection of 14th Avenue and Judah Street in the city's Inner Sunset neighborhood. Six people who were in the van suffered injuries and were transported to area hospitals. No one in the light rail vehicle seems to have been injured. Orange County Car Accident Causes Injuries
One woman sustained injuries in an Orange car accident after her vehicle was involved in a crash with another vehicle at an intersection. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the driver of a Ford Taurus had to be extricated from her car after it was T-boned by a Nissan Altima at the intersection of Lincoln Avenue and Glassell Street the morning of May 13, 2010. San Francisco Area Hit-and-Run Car Accident Kills Two
Two people -- 35-year-old Victor Diaz and 56-year-old Phillip Coston -- were killed and four were injured in a San Francisco car accident that occurred near midnight on April 16, 2010. According to a news report in the Contra Costa Times, the car crash happened at the intersection of Buchanan Road and Brookside Drive, in Pittsburg, California. Los Angeles Car Accident Injures Skateboarder
An 18-year-old man sustained serious injuries in a Los Angeles car accident after he was struck by a car the afternoon of April 7, 2010 while riding his skateboard in Whittier. The Whittier Daily News reports that the major injury crash happened near the intersection of Broadway and Comstock Avenue. The skateboarder was unconscious when emergency personnel arrived. San Diego Car Accident Fatally Injures Marines
Two Marines, ages 19 and 21, sustained fatal injuries in a San Diego car accident after the vehicle they were in went off the roadway and into a ravine. The San Diego Union-Tribune reports that the fatal car accident occurred the night of March 18, 2010 when the Mazda 3 going west on Carroll Canyon Road in Mira Mesa went straight through a guardrail. Girl Killed in Los Angeles Car Accident
Police have identified a 13-year-old girl who died in a Los Angeles car accident that happened the morning of February 26, 2010, as Julia Siegler. According to a news report in the Los Angeles Times, the teenager was trying to cross Sunset Boulevard to catch a school bus when she was clipped by a vehicle and then run over by another. Police say preliminary reports show that Julia was crossing against a red light. Both drivers remained at the scene. The girl was taken to a nearby hospital. She succumbed to her injuries.
