A 47-year-old man who was killed in a Orange County car accident the night of May 2, 2012 has been identified as Martin Moreno of Fountain Valley. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the fatal car accident occurred when Moreno was driving a Toyota pickup southbound on the overcrossing at the 405 Freeway where Bolsa Chica Road turns into Valley View Street. Moreno's pickup was hit head-on by a Honda van that entered into oncoming traffic lanes. Moreno died at the scene while the other driver was taken to a hospital in critical condition.
Police have stated that the van's driver crossed the center of the roadway and struck the Toyota. A driver, identified by the Register as Marisa Gonzales, said she witnessed the van moments before the crash. She said the van cut her off and almost hit her vehicle. She told the paper that the driver of the van was "driving like a maniac, running red lights, driving at least 60 miles per hour." Police investigators also confirmed that they received several reports of the reckless van driver before the collision. However, an investigation is still ongoing. No arrests have been made.

Los Angeles County Sheriff's Deputy Kirk Petersen was injured in a Santa Clarita car accident after his patrol car was hit by a male juvenile driver at a street intersection. According to a KHTS news report, the collision occurred on April 28, 2012 at the intersection of Auto Center Drive and Magic Mountain Parkway in Valencia. Officials say Petersen was making a left turn on a green light from southbound Auto Center Drive onto eastbound Magic Mountain Parkway when he collided with a Lexus driven by a 16-year-old.
The teenager had a male juvenile passenger and was headed north through the intersection after exiting the Valencia Town Center Mall. Petersen suffered non-life-threatening head injuries including lacerations and a possible concussion. The teens in the Lexus were uninjured. Petersen was transported to a local hospital for treatment. An investigation is ongoing.

Armando Villanueva, 40, was killed in a Los Angeles motorcycle accident after he lost control and crashed, the afternoon of April 30, 2012. According to a report in the Los Angeles Daily News, the fatal accident occurred in the 7600 block of Mulholland Drive. Police officials say Villanueva lost control of his motorcycle and crashed on the roadway. He died from his injuries. Officials, based on a preliminary investigation, do not believe that other vehicles were involved. The investigation is still ongoing.

Two women suffered injuries in a Fullerton car accident, which officials say involved two vehicles. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the injury collision occurred the morning of April 30, 2012 at the intersection of Euclid Street and Highland Avenue. A Toyota Highlander and a Ford Focus collided at the intersection. The women, who were occupants of the Focus, were transported to area hospitals. One of them was taken to a trauma center. Six other people were assessed at the scene, but did not require hospitalization. The investigation is ongoing.

Zhong Yi Cheng, 62, was fatally injured in a Los Angeles car accident after being hit by a car while crossing the street. According to a CBS Los Angeles news report, the pedestrian accident occurred on San Gabriel Boulevard near Sheffield Road, the night of April 28, 2012. Officials say Cheng was walking when 35-year-old Michael Munoz struck Cheng with his vehicle. Cheng suffered severe head injuries and died at the scene of the crash. Munoz has not been cited for the collision, but the investigation is ongoing.

Friends of 38-year-old Jose Luis Arreola are helping his family after Arreola was killed and his 7-year-old daughter Angelica was critically injured in a Los Angeles hit-and-run car accident. According to a news report in the Daily Breeze, the fatal pedestrian accident occurred on April 20, 2012, Arreola, his wife, Erika, and their daughters Anjelica and Adriana, 3, were walking in a crosswalk at the intersection of Santa Ana Boulevard and Watts Avenue. At that moment a Cadillac Escalade SUV sped toward them as it passed another vehicles that was stopped for the pedestrians.
When Arreola saw the SUV, he grabbed his daughter in an effort to protect her. But the SUV drove through the crosswalk and hit them both. Arreola died from his injuries, while Anjelica suffered major head injuries and remains in a coma. The driver apparently stopped briefly, before running over Arreola again as he accelerated away. The suspect was last seen entering into a nearby housing project. Police say the pedestrians absolutely had the right-of-way and that the driver of the SUV was at fault. Anyone with information about this hit-and-run pedestrian accident is asked to call California Highway Patrol officials at 310-516-3355.
Tragedy Strikes Family
My heartfelt condolences go out to the Arreola family for their devastating loss. Not only did the family lose its provider, but they also have a child who is fighting for her life! The Arreola family will certainly be in my thoughts and prayers.
Arreola’s colleagues at Green Hills Memorial Park where he fixed sprinklers, mowed laws and helped with burials, are rallying around the family. Employees have scheduled a car wash fundraiser for May 6 at NAPA Auto Parts at 1912 Carson St. in Torrance. The mortuary is also helping the family with Arreola’s burial expenses. The Daily Breeze reports that donations can be made to the Arreola family at Green Hills Mortuary, 27501 S. Western Ave. Rancho Palos Verdes, CA 90275.

Laura Hall, 66, was killed in a San Diego car accident after the SUV in which she was a passenger was hit by another vehicle, the morning of April 25, 2012. According to 10News, the Toyota RAV4 carrying Hall and her family members was traveling in the northbound lanes of the 805 Freeway when it was struck by a 2005 Nissan Altima near Mira Mesa Boulevard. California Highway Patrol officials say the driver of the Nissan had swerved to avoid a sedan that veered into her lane. The SUV rolled over several times, before striking the center-divide. The Altima also hit a 2011 Toyota Tacoma pickup.
The SUV’s driver, 43-year-old Brian D. Thomas suffered broken ribs, cuts and bruises. His 42-year-old wide Rebecca and son Bryan, 8, suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Daneisha Thompson, 22, a passenger in the back seat, suffered lacerations and bruises. Hall was transported to an area hospital with major head injuries and died later that day. The two other motorists who were involved escaped without injuries. The driver of the sedan who triggered the chain-reaction collision left the scene. Officials are looking for this hit-and-run driver. The vehicle has been described as a beige or silver Honda sedan.

Andre Gonzalez, 22, was killed in an Orange County car accident after his vehicle went out of control and crashed. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the fatal car accident occurred early morning on April 23, 2012. California Highway Patrol officials say Gonzalez, who was driving a Chrysler PT Cruiser, failed to negotiate a curve on the 133 just north of the 73 Freeway. The PT Cruiser slid to the left and into the median where it overturned several times before coming to rest on its side. Gonzalez was ejected from the vehicle and was fatally injured. Officials are investigating the cause of this accident.

Apparently, Gonzalez was set to graduate in May with a degree in kinesiology. He was also the captain of the 2010-11 wrestling squad. Two people were injured in a Lake Forest car accident which officials say involved five vehicles. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the injury crash occurred at the intersection of Chinook and Lake Forest drives, the morning of April 23, 2012. Five vehicles including a Lexus GS300, a Ford Focus and a Chevy Blazer were involved in the collision. It is not clear exactly how or why the crash occurred.

Five people including two children were injured in a Los Angeles car accident, which officials say involved two vehicles. According to a CBS news report, the injury crash occurred the night of April 21, 2012 in the 2300 block of West Pico Boulevard. Five victims were transported to area hospitals with injuries that do not appear to be life threatening. Two vehicles were traveling on Pico, in opposite directions, when one crossed the double yellow line and collided head-on into the other vehicle. Police do not believe alcohol was a factor in the crash. One of the drivers fled the scene. An investigation is ongoing.
