77-year-old man was killed in an Irvine car accident after he was struck by a vehicle, the morning of September 12, 2011. According to a City News Service report, the fatal collision occurred on Summit Park between View Terrance and Edgeview. Irvine police say the man crashed his Lexus SUV into a landscape truck parked at the curb on Summit Park. He was standing in the road shortly after the collision when a 16-year-old Irvine boy who was headed in the same direction in a 2002 Volkswagen Jetta hit the victim. Police believe the sun may have been a factor in both collisions. The victim was transported to a hospital where he died. An investigation is ongoing.
I offer my deepest condolences to the family members and friends of this deceased victim. My thoughts and prayers go out to them.
Car Accident Statistics
According to California Highway Patrol's 2009 Statewide Integrated TrafficRecords System (SWITRS), there were 14 fatalities and 871 injuries as a result of Irvine car accidents. During the same year, 141 were killed and 13,373 were injured in Orange County car accidents.
What Caused This Tragic Crash?
Based on this news report, it is unclear as to why the victim crashed his Lexus into the parked vehicle. It is also not clear why the teenager did not see the man standing near his vehicle. Was speed, alcohol or distracted driving a factor in this car accident? Did inexperience play a part? Was the landscape truck parked legally? I trust officials are closely examining these and other factors in order to determine how and why this tragic crash occurred.
Fault and Liability
In such cases, the at-fault party could be held liable for the damages. In collisions where negligence or wrongdoing is involved, families of deceased car accident victims can file a wrongful death claim seeking compensation for medical expenses, funeral costs, lost future income, loss of love and companionship, and other damages. Families would be well-advised to contact an experienced Irvine personal injury lawyer, who will analyze all aspects of the incident and ensure that the negligent parties are held liable. The best personal injury law firms will always offer a free consultation and comprehensive case evaluation to injured victims and their families.
