Six people were injured, two of them critically, in a Long Beach car accident the afternoon of March 10, 2010. According to a news report in The Press Telegram, the accident occurred on the northbound 710 Freeway near the Pacific Coast Highway, when a Coca-Cola van caused a chain-reaction collision involving a Caltrans van, a Caltrans truck and an SUV. Two men were taken to an area hospital with critical injuries and four others were treated for what were described as minor to moderate injuries. Four of the injured victims were Caltrans employees, Long Beach fire officials said. An investigation into the cause of the accident is ongoing. Read the rest of this entry »

California Highway Patrol officials believe that excessive speed may have caused a San Francisco car accident that killed one person the night of March 9, 2010. According to a Bay City News report, the driver of a 1998 Ford Mustang made a sudden lane change while traveling eastbound on Highway 80 in Emeryville. The Ford then struck another vehicle and came to rest facing oncoming traffic. This started a chain-reaction collision as a Nissan Frontier crashed head-on into the stopped Mustang, killing the driver of the Mustang. At least 12 cars were involved in this crash. An off-duty Los Angeles police officer was killed in a Los Angeles car accident involving four vehicles. According to a news report in the San Gabriel Valley Tribune, the fatal car accident occurred on Grand Avenue near Longview Drive, in Diamond Bar, the afternoon of February 25, 2010. Los Angeles County Sheriff's officials say the chain-reaction crash was triggered by a head-on collision between two vehicles traveling in opposite directions on Grand. Four people were injured in a Ventura car accident involving two cars the evening of February 15, 2010. The Ventura County Star reports that the major injury accident occurred at the intersection of Bardsdale Avenue and Sespe Street in Fillmore. Guillermo Andrade, 31, was driving west on Bardsdale and ran a stop sign at that intersection, California Highway Patrol officials said. Bridgette T. Hale, 36, was killed in a San Diego car accident after a wrong-way driver crashed into her vehicle on Highway 67 in Lakeside. According to a news report in The San Diego Union-Tribune, Hale's Chevy Astro van collided head-on with an Oldsmobile 98 that was heading north in the southbound lane of the highway near Johnson Lake Road the afternoon of January 26, 2010. California Highway Patrol officials said 51-year-old John Hallaway, the driver of the Oldsmobile, suffered major injuries. Shayla Hill, 17, and Robert Lantrip, 60, sustained major injuries in a car accident that occurred the morning of January 9, 2010, on Road 132 north of Visalia. According to a news report in the Fresno Bee, Hill was traveling north on Road 132 near Avenue 320, when her car drifted on to the right shoulder. Hill then overcorrected and crossed the center line into the path of Lantrip's pickup truck, which was traveling south on Road 132. Emerald Arias, 18, was killed in a Los Angeles car accident after the car in which she was a passenger, stalled on the freeway and was struck by another vehicle. According to a news report in The Santa Clarita Signal, the fatal car accident occurred the morning of December 30, 2009, on the 5 Freeway in Santa Clarita. Arias was a passenger in a 1999 Honda Civic, which ran out of gas and became disabled in the number three lane. A Toyota Tercel rear-ended the Civic. Both Arias and the driver of the Civic, a 46-year-old woman, were trapped in the vehicle. A Daewoo then crashed into the Tercel. Arias died later from her injuries. Brothers Ruedi Keller and Matthias Keller sustained critical injuries in a San Francisco car accident after a 21-year-old driver rear-ended them on Highway 280 near 19th Avenue. According to a news report in the Marin Independent Journal the accident occurred the morning of December 19, 2009 as the brothers were returning home to Marin County from San Francisco International Airport. James Hunt, the driver of the car that rear-ended them, died at the scene. Authorities are performing chemical tests in order to determine whether Hunt was driving while intoxicated. Edward Delgado, 21, was killed in a Los Angeles car accident that involved several other vehicles, the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin reports. The accident occurred the afternoon of December 20, 2009, on the southbound 71 Freeway in Pomona, near West Ninth Street.
