A San Diego car accident involving a collision between a Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) bus and another vehicle, the afternoon of March 24, 2010, has injured nine of the bus passengers. The San Diego Union-Tribune reports the injury accident happened at the intersection of University Avenue and 37th Street in City Heights. A Mitsubishi Eclipse ran a stop sign at University Avenue as it headed south on 37th, and struck the bus, which was eastbound on University.

The injured passengers whose ages ranged from 18 to 51, complained of back and neck pains. The injuries to two of the passengers are described as serious. The driver of the Mitsubishi abandoned his car and ran away from the scene of the car versus bus accident. Police found an open liquor bottle inside the car and are continuing to investigate this crash.

I offer my deepest sympathies to the seriously injured passengers of this hit-and-run accident. I wish them and the others who were injured the very best for a complete recovery. Please keep these victims in your thoughts.

Injuries In A Broadside Accident

Based on this news account, the driver of the Mitsubishi appears to be responsible for causing this street intersection crash. He apparently went through a stop sign and struck the left side of the bus near the front tire. This is typical of accidents involving stop signs and red light "runners" at street intersections. Such violations usually end in what is known as a broadside crash. Broadside or side-impact crashes tend to cause catastrophic injuries or death because the sides of vehicles offer less protection from the impact of the collision than the front or back of the vehicle.

California Traffic Laws

Leaving the scene of an accident is also a serious crime under California law. According to California Vehicle Code section 20001: "The driver of a vehicle involved in an accident resulting in injury to a person, other than himself or herself, or in the death of a person shall immediately stop the vehicle at the scene of the accident."

I truly hope this hit-and-run suspect will be apprehended and held both, criminally and civilly accountable for his actions. If the news article is accurate, this driver, not only ran a stop sign and caused a violent collision with a public transit bus, but also fled the scene. And, based on the evidence of the open liquor container in the vehicle, he was possibly under the influence, as well.

Contacting A Reputed Car Accident Lawyer

In these types of serious injury accidents, victims and their families will be well served by enlisting the services of a truly reputedSan Diego personal injury lawyer, who has a successful track record of pursing drunk and negligent drivers, and getting just compensation for the injured parties. A skilled car accident lawyer should help determine how an injured victim's car insurance policy applies to a hit-and-run case or an incident involving an uninsured or underinsured driver. If you have any information about this hit-and-run suspect, please call 1-800-6-Hit-N-Run (800-644-8678).

Nine people aboard a Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) bus were injured in a San Diego car accident after a Mitsubishi Eclipse ran a stop sign at a City Heights intersection and collided with the bus. According to a news report in The San Diego Union-Tribune, the car was southbound on 37th Street the afternoon of March 24, 2010, and ran the stop sign at University Avenue. The Mitsubishi then broadsided the bus, which was traveling east on University. There were 40 people on the bus, of which nine were injured.

Accident Causes Serious Injuries

Two of the victims were seriously injured. The driver of the Mitsubishi apparently tried to drive away from the scene, but the car stalled. So, he got off the car and fled on foot. Police found an open container of alcohol in the vehicle leading them to believe that he had been driving under the influence at the time of this car versus bus accident.

My heart goes out to these injured victims, especially the two people who were seriously injured in this crash. I wish all these victims the very best for a speedy and complete recovery. They will be in my prayers.

Several Violations of the Law

I trust the driver of the Mitsubishi, who apparently committed several violations of the law including hit-and-run, will be apprehended and brought to justice. If he is found guilty of the charges, he should be held both, criminally and civilly liable for his actions. If the details of the news report are accurate, this driver ran a stop sign, crashed into a city bus injuring several people and then fled the scene of a crash. Officials suspect he was also under the influence.

California law requires drivers to come to a complete stop at a stop sign and proceed with caution. According to California Vehicle Code section 21802 (a): "The driver of any vehicle approaching a stop sign at the entrance to, or within, an intersection shall stop as required by Section 22450. The driver shall then yield the right-of-way to any vehicles which have approached from another highway, or which are approaching so closely as to constitute an immediate hazard, and shall continue to yield the right-of-way to those vehicles until he or she can proceed with reasonable safety."

Leaving the scene of an accident is also a serious crime under California law. According to California Vehicle Code section 20001: "The driver of a vehicle involved in an accident resulting in injury to a person, other than himself or herself, or in the death of a person shall immediately stop the vehicle at the scene of the accident."

Justice for Injured Victims

Victims of this injury accident would be well-advised to contact an experienced San Diego personal injury lawyer, who will fight for their rights and hold the negligent parties accountable. Victims can seek compensation to cover medical expenses, loss of wages, cost of hospitalization, treatment and other related expenses. If you have any information about this hit-and-run suspect, please call 1-800-6-Hit-N-Run (800-644-8678).

A man sustained severe injuries in a San Francisco pedestrian accident after he was run over by a Muni bus. ABC News reports that the injury accident happened the afternoon of February 23, 2010 on Stanyan Street, near Fulton Street. Officials said initially that the pedestrian tripped and fell down as he ran to catch the 33-Stanyan bus. The bus was apparently pulling away from the bus stop. The man suffered major leg injuries, officials said. His injuries have been described as life-threatening.

I hope and pray that this victim makes it through his serious injuries and has a complete recovery. It seems that this victim may have sustained catastrophic injuries. He will certainly be in my thoughts and prayers.

San Francisco Pedestrian Accidents

The city of San Francisco apparently leads the nation when it comes to pedestrian accident injuries and fatalities. According to a study conducted by a group called Transportation for America released a study, 27 percent of all traffic accident fatalities in the San Francisco region involved pedestrian accidents. In 2008 alone, 72 people died in pedestrian accidents in San Francisco. That number was up from 64 in 2007.

Who Was at Fault?

It is hard to tell whether this may have just been a tragic accident or the result of some type of negligence or wrongdoing. While it is entirely possible that this was the pedestrian's fault, there is also the possibility that this might have occurred because of a dangerous roadway condition. If that was the case, the city of governmental agency responsible for maintaining that roadway could be held liable for this accident. If I were a family member of the victim, I'd certainly want to know if in fact, any negligence or oversight, either by the Muni driver or the city officials led to this major injury
bus accident.

In such cases, victims can seek compensation to cover medical expenses, cost of hospitalization, prosthetics, rehabilitation, physical therapy and long-term care in case of any catastrophic injuries. An experienced San Francisco personal injury lawyer will be able to advise victims about their legal rights and options. Please remember that any claim against a governmental entity in California must be properly filed within 180 days of the accident or injury.

Nine passengers on an Orange Line bus were injured in a Los Angeles car accident after the eastbound commuter bus hit another vehicle. According to a news report in the Los Angeles Daily News, the accident occurred the afternoon of October 30, 2009 when the bus was going east on Chandler Boulevard near Valley Glen when it crashed into a vehicle at an intersection in the 5400 block of Coldwater Canyon Avenue. Los Angeles fire officials said none of the injuries seemed to be major.

I'm relieved that none of the commuters on the bus, including the driver, sustained catastrophic injuries in this accident. I wish all the injured victims the very best for a quick and complete recovery.

Los Angeles Car Accident Statistics

There were 260 fatalities and 27,110 injuries reported in the city of Los Angeles as a result of car accidents in 2007, according to California Highway Patrol's Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS). During the same year, 712 deaths and 56,475 injuries occurred in Los Angeles County involving car accidents.

It is not clear from this news report who or what caused this bus accident in California. If the news report is accurate, it occurred at a street intersection. So it would seem either the bus driver or the driver of the other car did not yield right-of-way at this intersection. If the intersection had a red light, the question arises whether one of the drivers ran the red light and crashed into the other vehicle.

At Fault Party Could Be Held Liable

If the bus driver is at fault for this Los Angeles personal injury accident, the transit authority could be held liable for the passengers' injuries. Bus companies - whether they are public or private carriers – owe their passengers the "utmost duty of care," which means that they must ensure that their passengers are transported safely. If the driver of the other vehicle is determined to be at fault then he or she could be held liable for the victims' injuries.

In such cases, victims would be well-advised to seek the counsel of a reputed Los Angeles personal injury attorney who will make sure that their rights are protected and that they get fair compensation for their injuries and loss. It would also be in the best interest of accident victims not to talk to any insurance adjusters or attorneys for the other parties before they have consulted their own injury lawyer. The best personal injury law firms will always offer an initial case evaluation at no charge to injured victims and their families.

A car product defect that caused a Los Angeles bus fire on April 23, 2009 injured 27 people in suburban Calabasas, according to an Associated Press report. The Commuter Express was heading north on Highway 101 a few miles northwest of Los Angeles when it caught fire. The driver noticed flames and smoke coming from the rear of the bus. The driver pulled over and the 37 passengers aboard the bus were able to escape. However, 26 people were treated at the scene for smoke inhalation while one woman was taken to the hospital for further observation. The cause of this fire is under investigation. Officials say it started in the engine compartment and may have been caused by a mechanical malfunction.

It is indeed a relief that this Calabasas California bus accident did not turn out to be catastrophic. With 37 passengers on board and flames shooting out, the bus could have crashed on the freeway, which would have made the personal injuries far more serious. Smoke inhalation, is however, not to be taken lightly. I wish all the injured passengers the very best for a quick and complete recovery.

What is smoke inhalation? Basically, it happens when you breathe in smoke from a fire, Breathing in a large amount of smoke can be dangerous because it can burn your throat and airways. Sometimes, smoke from a fire has poisonous gases in it which can cause breathing problems. Some of the most common symptoms of smoke inhalation include upset stomach, vomiting, headache, inability to speak or sore throat, drowsiness, headache and confusion.

I would be curious to find out what caused the mechanical malfunction in this bus that triggered the fire. Was it a car product defect or a mechanical problem caused by poor maintenance or just lack of maintenance? When a car accident is a result of a product defect, the auto product manufacturer can be held liable for the car collision and personal injuries caused. When a bus accident is caused by negligence on the part of a driver or a bus company (which includes lack of proper vehicle maintenance), the bus operator could be held liable.
