Riverside Car Accident Kills Worker
Paul John Rado, 62, was killed in a Riverside car accident the morning of January 19, 2010 after the company truck he was driving left Highway 189 and crashed. According to a news report in The Mountain News, Rado, an employee with Arrowhead Alarms, was returning to his company's headquarters after his morning rounds, in the Blue Jay area, when the fatal accident occurred. Rado's 2003 Ford Ranger pickup truck was located down an embankment off the roadway, and on its roof, by one of his co-workers, who went out to look for him when he did not return to work. California Highway Patrol officials said Rado was found in the driver's seat with his seatbelt in place. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Read the rest »

New Law Requires Ignition Interlock Devices For California DUI Offenders
The California car accident attorneys at BISNAR | CHASE have always been in favor of proactive legislation that enhances public safety. The California Assembly recently created a pilot project mandating ignition interlock devices (IIDs) for first-time DUI offenders in Alameda, Los Angeles, Sacramento and Tulare counties. This is certainly a piece of proactive legislation that will prevent serious injuries and fatalities as a result of drunk driving accidents. California Assembly Bill 91, authored by Assemblyman Mike Feuer (D-West Hollywood) requires the installation of IIDs on every vehicle the DUI offender owns or is allowed to operate. Read the rest »
Federal Officials Revise Road Safety Standards
The California car accident attorneys at BISNAR | CHASE are pleased to note that the Transportation Department has released a comprehensive update to a rather outdated manual, which sets the standards for road safety throughout the country. The document, which is titled the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD), is the national standard for all traffic control devices such as traffic signs, pavement markings and traffic signals. Dogs Bite Boy on His Way to School in San Diego
A boy in Vista, California, was seriously injured in a dog bite incident after two Rottweilers attacked him the morning of October 30, 2009 on his way to school. According to a 10news report, the sixth grader was walking to school when he came face to face with the dogs. A mom who was driving with her daughter at the time saw the boy screaming and running from the dogs. She got out of her car and tried to help the boy along with another woman. She said she tried to get help from other passers by but no one stopped to help. Eventually, a man stopped and helped to get the dogs off the boy. The child sustained 40 dog bites and is said to be recovering well.

California Nursing Home Abuse and Negligence Continue to be a Problem
The nursing home abuse and negligence attorneys at BISNAR | CHASE have been constantly concerned about the poor oversight of California nursing homes. Earlier this year we noted that Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger cut funding significantly for nursing home ombudsman programs across California. These programs consist of volunteers who may go into nursing homes and conduct sudden inspections or follow up on complaints from families of nursing home residents relating to abuse, negligence or fraud.

Los Angeles Car Accident Lawyer Concerned about Dangerous Intersection

We recently came across another instance of an unsafe road condition where residents are pushing for improvements, at the intersection of Baseline Road and Citrus Avenue. Apparently 12 car accidents have been reported over the last 12 months, including two in late August. According to a news report in the Pasadena Star News, six vehicles were broadsided at the intersection last year and eight injuries were reported.

Riverside County Fatal Motorcycle Accident
Brandin Lee Zantop, 30, was killed in a Joshua Tree motorcycle accident early morning on June 25, 2009, the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin reports. Zantop was riding his 2006 Yamaha bike south on Quail Springs Road when he missed a turn, went off the road crossing a dirt shoulder and hitting an 18-inch berm, California Highway Patrol officials said. Zantop and his motorcycle were thrown into the fence of a nearby home's backyard. Residents said they heard an "unusual noise" when Zantop is believed to have crashed.

Defective Coffeemakers Recalled for Burn Hazard
Applica Consumer Products Inc. is recalling 584,000 Black & Decker Spacemaker Coffeemakers because of a serious burn hazard. According to a consumer alert released by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Applica Consumer Products issued a voluntary product recall for these defective coffeemakers because its brew basket can shift out of alignment allowing hot water to overflow. This poses the risk of serious burn injuries and scalding to consumers. So far, the company has received 235 reports of hot water overflowing and burning consumers. There were 10 reports of consumers suffering second-degree burns. Read the rest »
