Project SELF is an eight-week internship program initiated in 1995 by the Orange County Bar Association and the Orange County Chapter of Association of Legal Administrators. The program's design is to give high school students the opportunity to explore professional careers in the legal community. Students gain invaluable knowledge and experience as they are introduced to a positive and professional work environment.

This year BISNAR | CHASE is fortunate to have Anna Colin from Santa Ana high school working with our firm. After Anna learned about the two-month internship though her school, she was more than eager to apply. She has recently completed her junior year of high school and is entering her senior year this fall. Anna plans to attend college after high school in pursuit of a career as an attorney or paralegal.

Anna has been more than the ideal intern. She has demonstrated an outstanding work ethic and maintained a clear sense of purpose. She has not only met but also exceeded our numerous expectations. The personal injury lawyers at BISNAR | CHASE have had the privilege to know and work with two interns from Chapman University this summer. In late May, the two scholars, Trey Cannon and Anthony Garilli, joined the BISNAR | CHASE team to help on a number of high profile cases. During their internship, they have increased their knowledge of law, gained valuable hands on work experience, and provided tremendous support to our team. Their presence has greatly helped us.

Trey Cannon

Trey Cannon came across the BISNAR | CHASE internship while researching some of the top law firms in and around Orange County. When he came across BISNAR | CHASE he was eager to contact the firm. After a lengthy interview process, Trey was initiated into a three-month internship.

"I came to BISNAR | CHASE because they offered a chance to have more responsibility then merely copying and filing documents," Said Trey. "I was going to get to do some hands on legal research and document preparation experience by coming here."

This is Trey's first internship but he has had some experience working in a law firm. Trey's father is the managing partner of an Austin, Texas law firm where he used to work during high school. During his internship, he has learned numerous research skills working closely with our litigation department.

Trey will be entering his senior year at Chapman college as an undergraduate. He plans to attend law school to become an entertainment lawyer. He would like to work as a sports or entertainment agent and represent clients in contract negotiations.

Anthony Garilli

Anthony Garilli found BISNAR | CHASE during his first year of law school while taking Torts I in 2008. He did some research on which firms were the best personal injury firms in Southern California and put BISNAR | CHASE on the top of his list. He began reading Mr. Bisnar's blogs and decided he was going to work for this firm. Two years later he contacted BISNAR | CHASE and interviewed for the three-month summer internship program.

Los Angeles Car Accident Causes Major Injuries

A 52-year-old man who was critically injured in a car accident in Los Angeles has been identified as veteran California Highway Patrol Officer Phillip Ortiz. KTLA News reports that the collision, which involved multiple vehicles, occurred the morning of June 9, 2010 on the 405 Freeway in Culver City, and was set off by a driver who illegally passed traffic on the right shoulder. Ortiz had made a traffic stop when he was hit by an Infiniti sedan. He was taken to an area trauma center with life-threatening injuries. Four others victims were also transported to hospitals, of which one had been severely injured, officials said.

4 Killed in Van Nuys Car Accident

Earlier this month, 4 young adults lost their lives in a Van Nuys car accident. The accident happened on Roscoe Boulevard between Balboa Place and Hayvenhurst Avenue. The 22-year old driver of the car lost control and killed herself and her three passengers.

Azusa Bicycle Accident Injures 8-year-old Boy

A bicycle accident in Azusa caused critical injuries to an 8-year-old boy the evening of April 30, 2010. The San Gabriel Valley Tribune reports that the boy was riding his bike in the 100 block of North Pasadena Avenue when a vehicle hit him. The child was taken to an area hospital with major injuries. Investigating officials are saying that the driver was not impaired at the time. But an investigation is ongoing. So far, there have been no citations or arrests.

My heart goes out to the family of this injured boy. I hope he has not sustained any catastrophic injuries and pray that he makes a complete recovery. Driver Arrested in Connection with Fatal Sacramento Car Accident

A teen driver is facing vehicular manslaughter charges in connection with a
Sacramento car accident that killed Christine Ingle, 45, on February 16, 2010. KXTV reports that Travis Moore, 19, is facing these serious criminal charges after officials say he drove past a stop sign, in his Mercedes SUV, at the intersection of C and 16th streets and crashed into Ingle's Ford Explorer SUV. Ingle was partially ejected from the SUV in spite of wearing a seatbelt, and killed. Three other teens in the Mercedes were critically injured in the crash.
