Trick-or-treaters Hospitalized after Halloween Hit-and-Run Crash in Watts

An 11-year-old boy and a woman suffered injuries in a Los Angeles car accident on Halloween night, which officials say involved a hit-and-run driver. According to an NBC news account, the collision occurred at the intersection of East 92nd Street and Beach Street in Watts, the night of October 31, 2012.

Police say the victims were both wearing Halloween costumes and crossing the road when a silver Suzuki struck them and left the scene. Both were hospitalized, but the nature and extent of their injuries is not known. The car was found nearby with candy still on its damaged hood. Officials are trying to locate the driver. Pedestrian Fatally Injured in Corona Car Accident

David Cortez, 58, was killed in a Corona collision after a vehicle hit him as he crossed the road, the evening of October 28, 2012. According to a CBS news report, the pedestrian accident occurred near the intersection of Sixth and Merrill streets.

Police say Cortez was walking southbound across Sixth Street when a vehicle driven by Israel Andrade, 23, struck him. Officials suspect Cortez was not in a designated crosswalk when the incident occurred. Cortez died at the scene. Andrade was not arrested or cited. Pedestrian Accident Statistics

One fatality and 28 injuries were reported as a result of pedestrian accidents in Corona, according to California Highway Patrol’s 2010 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS). Pedestrian Fatally Injured in San Bernardino County Collision

Carl Evans, 30, was killed in a San Bernardino car accident after a vehicle that drifted out of traffic lanes struck him. According to a news article in The Press-Enterprise, the fatal pedestrian accident occurred early morning on September 23, 2012 along Highway 18 near the lower Waterman Canyon turnoff in Crestline. Officials say Evans was struck by 45-year-old Margaret Stegenga who had been drinking. However, Stegenga has not been arrested “because the degree of her alcohol impairment” has not yet been determined. Investigators have established that Evans, who was walking beside the roadway, was hit by Stegenga’s vehicle that drifted out of traffic lanes.

Pedestrian Killed in Wildomar Crash

Humberto Twobulls, 21, of Billings, Montana, was killed in a Riverside car accident involving a minivan, the morning of September 15, 2012. According to the Riverside County Coroner’s website, the pedestrian accident occurred at the intersection of Clinton Keith Road and Iodine Springs Road in Wildomar. The Murrieta Patch reports that the pedestrian suffered severe head trauma and was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. He succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. The minivan that struck the victim was owned by a dry-cleaning company. The investigation is ongoing.

Skateboarder Killed in San Bernardino Car Accident

Nicholas Drew Royals, 22, was killed in a car crash in San Bernardino after a car struck him. According to a news report in The San Bernardino County Sun, the fatal pedestrian accident occurred early morning on September 10, 2012 on Benson Avenue near Moreno Street in Montclair. Police say Royals was heading south on Benson when a 1995 Nissan Sentra driven by a man struck him from behind. The driver stopped at the scene and called 911. Royals was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver apparently told officials that he could not see Royals on the roadway. The investigation is ongoing.

Santa Ana Pedestrian Accident Causes Major Injuries

A woman suffered major injuries in a Santa Ana car accident after a vehicle struck her as she was crossing the road. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the major injury crash occurred at the intersection of Bristol Street and West Park Lane the night of August 15, 2012. Police say the woman who was in her 30s was crossing the intersection when a vehicle that was traveling north on Bristol hit her. The driver stopped and tried to give aid to the woman. Paramedics transported the victim to a local hospital. Investigators are still trying to determine who had the right-of-way at the time. No citations or arrests were reported.
