A man sustained severe injuries in a San Francisco pedestrian accident after he was run over by a Muni bus. ABC News reports that the injury accident happened the afternoon of February 23, 2010 on Stanyan Street, near Fulton Street. Officials said initially that the pedestrian tripped and fell down as he ran to catch the 33-Stanyan bus. The bus was apparently pulling away from the bus stop. The man suffered major leg injuries, officials said. His injuries have been described as life-threatening.
I hope and pray that this victim makes it through his serious injuries and has a complete recovery. It seems that this victim may have sustained catastrophic injuries. He will certainly be in my thoughts and prayers.
San Francisco Pedestrian Accidents
The city of San Francisco apparently leads the nation when it comes to pedestrian accident injuries and fatalities. According to a study conducted by a group called Transportation for America released a study, 27 percent of all traffic accident fatalities in the San Francisco region involved pedestrian accidents. In 2008 alone, 72 people died in pedestrian accidents in San Francisco. That number was up from 64 in 2007.
Who Was at Fault?
It is hard to tell whether this may have just been a tragic accident or the result of some type of negligence or wrongdoing. While it is entirely possible that this was the pedestrian's fault, there is also the possibility that this might have occurred because of a dangerous roadway condition. If that was the case, the city of governmental agency responsible for maintaining that roadway could be held liable for this accident. If I were a family member of the victim, I'd certainly want to know if in fact, any negligence or oversight, either by the Muni driver or the city officials led to this major injury
bus accident.
In such cases, victims can seek compensation to cover medical expenses, cost of hospitalization, prosthetics, rehabilitation, physical therapy and long-term care in case of any catastrophic injuries. An experienced San Francisco personal injury lawyer will be able to advise victims about their legal rights and options. Please remember that any claim against a governmental entity in California must be properly filed within 180 days of the accident or injury.
