Arrest Made In Newport Beach Hit-and-Run Collision

Hit and Run AccidentA San Clemente man has been arrested in connection with a fatal hit-and-run crash in Newport Beach early morning on Jan. 1, 2015 that killed 23-year-old Travis Marton of Valencia.

According to a report in the Orange County Register, the fatal crash occurred at the intersection of Newport Coast Drive and Pacific Coast Highway.

GM Issues Three More Recalls For Ignition Defects

GM RecallGeneral Motors has announced three new recalls affecting more than 83,000 SUVs and pickup trucks that may have defective ignition systems.

According to a Reuters news report, no crashes or injuries have been reported from these latest round of recalls, which focus on a potential defect in the vehicles’ electrical systems.

So far, ignition problems have triggered dozens of recalls from General Motors throughout 2014.

Study: Scooters & Riding Toys Take Kids To Emergency Rooms

Kids Riding Toy SafetyRiding toys especially scooters account for about 40 percent of toy-related injuries that sent children over 5 to the nation’s emergency rooms, according to a study done by the Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio.

According to a report in the Plain Dealer, the injury rate increased by 40 percent over the study period, 1990 to 2011 and almost all of the increase was attributable to the foot-powered scooter.

Safeway Pulls Caramel Apples Off Shelves after First Lawsuit is Filed

Safeway has pulled caramel apples off the shelves as a matter of precaution after the products have been linked to a listeria outbreak that has sickened 29 people nationwide across 10 states including California of which five have died.
 
According to a news report in The Seattle Times, federal officials have not blamed any particular brands of caramel apples, stores or manufacturers. But officials with the Safeway grocery chain said they pulled the treats from shelves just in case.

Whistleblower Files Lawsuit Over Wrongful Termination

Whistleblower Employment LawHoang Nguyen of Huntington Beach has filed an employment lawsuit against Ameri-King Inc. alleging that he was illegally fired for blowing the whistle on his employer.

According to a news report in the Huntington Beach Independent, Nguyen alleges in the complaint that Ameri-King, an aviation equipment manufacturer, has been selling rebranded or refurbished products that were made in China and not approved by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

Mitsubishi Recalls SUVs For Seatbelt Defects

Mitsubishi Vehicle Defect RecallMitsubishi Motors North America is recalling 54,779 SUVs to fix a problem with the front passenger seatbelt lap fastener.

According to Edmunds.com, the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has announced the recall of 2013-15 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport SUVs.

In the affected vehicles, the front passenger seatbelt lap end attachment fastener may not be torqued to specification.

This means that the fastener may loosen with time and be incapable of withstanding the load forces associated with a car crash.
