Two people were injured in an Orange County car accident, which officials say, involved three vehicles, the morning of October 4, 2011. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the injury collision occurred near the intersection of Lambert Road and Beach Boulevard in La Habra, . Officials say the driver of a pickup truck traveling west on Lambert, in the number one lane, entered the eastbound lanes and clipped a Chevy Tahoe. The truck then broadsided a Hyundai. The driver of the Hyundai had to be extricated from the vehicle. The pickup’s driver and the driver of the Hyundai were transported to nearby hospitals. The driver of the Tahoe was uninjured.
My heart goes out to the injured victims of this car crash. I wish them both the very best for a speedy and complete recovery.
According to California Highway Patrol’s 2009 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), there were two fatalities and 289 injuries involving La Habra car accidents. In Orange County as a whole, 141 people died and 13,373 were injured due to car accidents, during the same year.
Driving at Safe Speeds
Based on this news report, it appears that the driver of the pickup truck may have been traveling at an unsafe speed given the wet roadway conditions. California Vehicle Code Section 22350 (Basic Speed Law) states: “No person shall drive a vehicle upon a highway at a speed greater than is reasonable or prudent having due regard for weather, visibility, the traffic and on surface and width of, the highway, and in no event at a speed which endangers the safety of persons or property.” Drivers would be well-advised to slow down when roadways are slick and maintain adequate space between vehicles so there is sufficient time to stop.
