Los Angeles Motorcycle Accident Injures Man In Hit-and-Run Incident

By Admin on May 15, 2009 - No comments

A man was struck and injured the night of May 14, 2009 in a Los Angeles motorcycle accident, the Los Angeles Daily News reports. The motorcyclist, whose name was not released, was struck at Burbank Boulevard and Tyrone Avenue, Los Angeles Police Department officials said. After hitting the motorcyclist, the driver of the newer model Jeep, which is described as being either dark blue or black, fled northbound on Tyrone Avenue. There is no word on how the motorcyclist is doing or how severe his personal injuries are.

My heart goes out to the injured motorcycle accident victim. I hope his injuries were not major and I wish him the very best for a speedy and complete recovery. He will be in my prayers.

According to California Highway Patrol's 2007 Statewide Integrated Traffic Reporting System, there were 32 fatalities and 1,158 injuries involving motorcycle accidents in Los Angeles. In Los Angeles County, during the same year, 85 deaths and 2,792 injuries were reported as a result of motorcycle accidents.

I hope the hit-and-run driver in this case is apprehended and brought to justice. Fleeing the scene of an accident is a crime in California. California Vehicle Code section 20001 (a) states: "The driver of a vehicle involved in an accident resulting in injury to a person, other than himself or herself, or in the death of a person shall immediately stop the vehicle at the scene of the accident."

California law requires that motorists involved in motorcycle or car accidents stop at the scene, whether or not the accident was their fault. If the victim has been seriously injured, the driver is required (if he or she is in a position to safely do so) render aid to the victim. Rendering aid could be something as simple as picking up your cell phone and calling 911.

The injured motorcyclist would be well advised to retain the services of experienced Los Angeles motorcycle accident attorneys, who will hold the negligent parties accountable for their actions. In this case, the injured victim may be eligible to receive compensation for medical expenses, loss of earnings and other damages. The best California personal injury attorneys will offer a free and comprehensive initial consultation to victims and their families.
