An Anaheim police officer was seriously injured in a Riverside car accident involving three vehicles on the 91 Freeway. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the injury collision occurred the morning of July 15, 2010 near McKinley Street. The officer sustained broken bones. California Highway Patrol officials said he was riding a motorcycle and was involved in a collision with the two other vehicles. An investigation is ongoing.
I sympathize with this injured police officer. I hope his injuries are not catastrophic and wish him the very best for a speedy and complete recovery. Please keep this police officer in your thoughts and prayers.
Motorcycle Accident Statistics
According to CHP's 2008 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), there were three fatalities and 96 injuries involving motorcycle accidents in Riverside. In Riverside County as a whole, 32 people died and 581 were injured as a result of motorcycle accidents during the same year.
Causes and Liability Issues
Based on this news report, the details are rather sketchy and we do not get a clear idea of what happened. There are several questions here. Which one of the drivers was at fault for this injury crash? Did one of the vehicles make an unsafe lane change? Did the motorcyclist get cut off by another vehicle? Was one of the drivers impaired, distracted or driving recklessly? I trust officials are looking into these and other issues in order to determine how or why this accident occurred.
If one of the other drivers is found responsible for the crash, then, he or she could be held financially liable for the injuries caused to the motorcycle officer. In such cases, injured victims can seek compensation to cover medical expenses, loss of wages, cost of hospitalization, rehabilitation, physical therapy and other related damages.
Injured victims would also be well-advised to contact an experienced Riverside personal injury lawyer, who has the experience and a successful track record handling motorcycle accident cases.
