Alcides Flores-Landaverde, 23, was killed in a Hemet car accident, which officials say involved a hit-and-run driver. According to a news account in The Press-Enterprise, the fatal crash occurred early morning on September 11, 2012 near the intersection of Florida Avenue and Juanita Street in downtown Hemet. Flores-Landaverde’s body was found in the street.
Police have released more information about the pickup truck that hit the victim and drove away from the scene. Evidence found at the scene indicates that the vehicle was probably a silver 2000 to 2004 Nissan Frontier that likely has front-end damage and chipped paint. Images supplied by the department also show a license plate trim with shark’s tooth spikes. The front grill of the vehicle was broken off and left at the scene. The pickup was last seen heading west on Florida Avenue. Anyone with information about this fatal hit-and-run car accident is urged to contact Hemet police at 951-765-2433 and refer to file number 12-900267.
I offer my deepest condolences to the family members and friends of Alcides Flores-Landaverde for their devastating loss. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

Leaving the Scene of a Crash
Based on this news article, the driver of the pickup truck hit Flores-Landaverde fatally injuring him and left him lying on the roadway. Unconscionable! California Vehicle Code Section 20001 (a) requires all motorists to stop immediately at the scene of an injury collision and remain there until authorities arrive. Drivers are also required to exchange information with the other parties involved and most importantly, help the injured victims. “Help” in such cases could be as simple as calling 911. However, in this case, the driver did none of the above, choosing instead to flee the scene.

Families of deceased hit-and-run victims would be well advised to contact an experienced Riverside personal injury lawyer, who will stay abreast of the official investigation and ensure that their legal rights and best interests are protected. A knowledgeable car accident lawyer will also be able to advise victims’ families about how their own auto insurance policy might apply to an incident where the driver is not found or in a case where the at-fault motorist is uninsured or underinsured.
