Two people were injured in a Lake Forest car accident which officials say involved five vehicles. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the injury crash occurred at the intersection of Chinook and Lake Forest drives, the morning of April 23, 2012. Five vehicles including a Lexus GS300, a Ford Focus and a Chevy Blazer were involved in the collision. It is not clear exactly how or why the crash occurred.
I’m relieved to note that no one suffered major injuries in this crash. I wish them the very best for a speedy and complete recovery. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.
Car Accident Statistics
According to California Highway Patrol’s 2009 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), there were two fatalities and 180 injuries involving Lake Forest car accidents. During the same year, 141 people died and 13,373 were injured due to Orange County car accidents.
What Caused This Crash?
Based on this news report, it appears that the accident occurred at a street intersection that is monitored by traffic lights. It is not clear if this multi-vehicle collision was caused by a motorist who was under the influence, distracted, inattentive or otherwise negligent. Was this a rear-end crash? Did one of the vehicles fail to yield the right-of-way? Did one of the drivers run a red light at the intersection? Did one of the drivers make an unsafe turn? I trust officials are looking into these and other issues in order to determine precisely what occurred here and why.
Laws and Liability Issues
According to California Vehicle Code Section 21800 (a): “The driver of a vehicle approaching an intersection shall yield the right-of-way to any vehicle which has entered the intersection from a different highway.”
In such cases where multiple vehicles are involved, it would be in the best interests of injured victims to contact an experienced Orange County personal injury lawyer before accepting any sort of settlement. Injured victims can seek compensation from the at-fault driver for damages such as medical expenses, loss of wages, cost of hospitalization, rehabilitation and other related expenses. A knowledgeable car accident lawyer will be able to advise victims about how their own auto insurance policy applies to an incident where the at-fault driver is uninsured or underinsured.
