Javier Sanchez, 33, was killed in a San Bernardino car accident after his vehicle veered off the roadway, rolled over and burst into flames. According to a news report in The Press-Enterprise, the fatal crash occurred on Greenspot Road near Santa Ana Canyon Road in Highland early morning on September 3, 2012. Police say Sanchez’s car ran off the road and rolled over. Sanchez was ejected from the vehicle. He was found several feet from the burning car and pronounced dead by paramedics. Officials are still looking into what caused this fatal car accident.
I offer my deepest condolences to the family members and friends of Javier Sanchez for their tragic loss. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.
Crash Statistics
According to California Highway Patrol’s 2010 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), four fatalities and 105 injuries occurred involving car accidents in Highland. In San Bernardino County as a whole, 203 people died and 7,915 were injured due to traffic accidents, during the same year. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), nearly 25 percent of all traffic collisions nationwide are rollover accidents.
What Caused This Fatal Crash?
Based on this news report, it appears that the driver, Sanchez, was alone in the vehicle when it veered off the roadway and crashed, ejecting him. The news report makes no mention of whether or not he was wearing his seatbelt. There are several unanswered questions here. What caused Sanchez to lose control of the car? Did an auto defect or mechanical malfunction lead to this crash? Were other vehicles involved? Was there a dangerous condition on the roadway? Was Sanchez buckled up and ejected as the result of a defective seatbelt? I trust officials are looking into these and other factors in order to determine precisely what occurred here and why.
Liability Issues
In such cases, it would be a good idea to preserve the vehicle so it can be thoroughly examined by an expert for defects, malfunctions and other evidence. Families of deceased victims, in cases where negligence or wrongdoing is involved, can file a wrongful death claim seeking compensation for medical expenses, funeral costs, lost future income, and loss of love and companionship. Victims’ families would be well advised to contact an experienced San Bernardino personal injury lawyer, who will stay abreast of the official investigation and ensure that their legal rights and best interests are protected.
