A 20-year-old man suffered job injuries while working on a flight-simulator ride in SeaWorld, San Diego. According to a news report in U-T San Diego, the workplace accident occurred at the Wild Arctic flight-simulator at SeaWorld, the morning of May 15, 2012. Officials have stated that the worker was checking a leaking hydraulic plug when it popped out. The injuries do not appear to be life threatening but the man was hospitalized and kept overnight for observation. The ride was temporarily closed following the accident. The investigation is ongoing.

Three people including a police officer were injured in a Santa Ana car accident in which a hit-and-run driver was involved. According to The Orange County Register, the injury collision occurred at the intersection of First and Sullivan streets, the evening of May 16, 2012. Police say the officer was eastbound in his patrol car when the driver of a Ford pickup truck pulled in front of him while attempting to turn from westbound First to Sullivan Street.
The officer swerved to avoid the pickup truck and ended up hitting another vehicle. The officer and two passengers in the vehicle that was struck were transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the pickup fled the crash site. Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputy Kirk Petersen was injured in a Santa Clarita car accident after his patrol car was hit by a male juvenile driver at a street intersection. According to a KHTS news report, the collision occurred on April 28, 2012 at the intersection of Auto Center Drive and Magic Mountain Parkway in Valencia. Officials say Petersen was making a left turn on a green light from southbound Auto Center Drive onto eastbound Magic Mountain Parkway when he collided with a Lexus driven by a 16-year-old.
The teenager had a male juvenile passenger and was headed north through the intersection after exiting the Valencia Town Center Mall. Petersen suffered non-life-threatening head injuries including lacerations and a possible concussion. The teens in the Lexus were uninjured. Petersen was transported to a local hospital for treatment. An investigation is ongoing.

A man suffered critical injuries on the job while working at an Irvine construction site. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the construction accident occurred the afternoon of March 28, 2012 in the 8700 block of Irvine Center. Police say the man became entangled in a conveyor belt and was thrown into a rock crusher. Co-workers responded to the man’s cries for help and hit the emergency button before he went through the crusher. The worker suffered life-threatening head injuries and was transported to an area trauma center for treatment. Officials are looking into what caused this accident.

A 36-year-old man was injured on the job after an accident involving a chemical explosion, the afternoon of March 24, 2012. According to a news report in The San Gabriel Valley Tribune, the chemical fire occurred at a pottery company on Lomitas Avenue in Industry. Officials say the man was cutting an old metal barrel with a torch when it exploded. The barrel apparently contained residue of an unknown flammable material. The worker was hospitalized in critical condition. Officials are investigating the cause of this industrial accident.

Two men were injured on the job after a workplace accident that involved a small explosion, the morning of March 22, 2012. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the accident occurred at the Roger Dunn Golf Shop on Village Way in Santa Ana. Officials say the men were working on an electrical panel when there was a brief explosion and fire. The men were knocked back from the panel and they sustained non-life-threatening burn injuries on their head and face. The fire was quickly contained and no shop employees were injured. It is not clear how this accident occurred, but an investigation is underway.
My thoughts and prayers are with the two workers injured in this building fire. I am relieved to hear that they did not suffer critical burn injuries and I wish them the very best for a complete and speedy recovery.
