Andrew Lopez, 17, was killed in a Los Angeles car accident, which officials say involved a hit-and-run driver. According to a KABC news report, Lopez was riding his skateboard to soccer practice the evening of August 23, 2012 and was crossing Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard at Budlong Avenue, when a vehicle suddenly made a U-turn and struck him. The female driver stopped briefly, but drove away. Police have since tracked her down and made an arrest, but they have not identified here. She faces felony charges.
My thoughts and prayers are with the family members of Andrew Lopez who are grieving this terrible loss. Lopez was apparently the oldest of five siblings whose top priorities were school and soccer. He had plans to go to college in San Diego and is recalled by friends as a “funny and goofy guy” who always brought a smile to their faces. What a tragic loss! I offer my deepest condolences to everyone who knew and loved Andrew Lopez.
