Woman Killed in San Bernardino Car Accident

By Personal Injury Lawyer on January 27, 2010 - No comments

Gina Ziesing, 44, was killed in a San Bernardino car accident after she was hit by a vehicle while crossing Highway 62. According to a news report in The San Bernardino Sun, the fatal pedestrian accident occurred the night of January 24, 2010, when Ziesing was crossing the highway in Yucca Valley. A 2005 Buick van heading east on the highway struck Ziesing. Her injuries proved fatal. The accident is under investigation.

I offer my deepest condolences to the family and friends of Gina Ziesing for their tragic and sudden loss. My heart goes out to everyone who knew and loved this woman. Please keep them in your prayers.

Pedestrian Accidents

According to California Highway Patrol's 2007 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), there were nine fatalities and 64 injuries involving pedestrian accidents in Yucca Valley. In San Bernardino County as a whole, 50 people died and 432 were injured as a result of pedestrian accidents during the same year. Also, countywide, 308 deaths and 9,920 injuries were reported due to traffic accidents in 2007.

Who Caused the Accident?

The official report offers very little information about how or why this fatal pedestrian collision occurred. At this time, there are a number of unanswered questions here. Was Ziesing crossing in a crosswalk? Did the driver have the right-of-way at the time? How fast was the driver of the Buick going? Was the driver under the influence at the time? Was he or she distracted, speeding or reckless at the time of the accident? Was there a dangerous condition on the highway, which may have caused or contributed to this fatal car accident? All these factors will play an important part in determining whether or not the driver was at fault here.

An Experienced Injury Lawyer Can Help

Families of victims in such cases would be well-advised to contact an experienced California personal injury lawyer, who will stay on top of the official investigation and make sure that their legal rights and best interests are protected. If a dangerous or defective roadway caused this accident, the governmental entity responsible for maintaining that highway could be held liable as well. Any personal injury or wrongful death claim against a governmental entity in California must be filed within 180 days of the accident or injury.
