Based on this newspaper report, it is not clear what caused Yvonne Lambert to crash into the parked cars. Did she misjudge traffic? Did Lambert suffer a medical condition? Were the cars parked legally or were they parked illegally in a place where a motorist might not expect them to be? Was the roadway well lit? Was there a dangerous condition on the roadway, which caused or contributed to this tragic accident? Was there a serious vehicle defect or a mechanical malfunction in Lambert's car that may have caused her to lose control of the Datsun?
Liability Issues in Car Accidents
If a product defect is suspected, the vehicle should be preserved unaltered in its crashed state so it can be carefully examined by an expert for evidence of defects or mechanical malfunctions. If a dangerous condition on the roadway caused this crash, then the city of Torrance or the governmental agency responsible for maintaining that roadway could also be held liable. Any such claim against a governmental agency in California must be filed within six months of an accident or injury.
