Jeffrey Decker, 50, was killed in a Ventura car accident after his motorcycle collided with a sport utility vehicle, the Ventura County Star reports. An autopsy report determined that Decker had died of blunt force trauma to the head. The fatal motorcycle crash occurred the night of October 23, 2009 when Decker was riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle east on Alamo Street in Simi Valley. Decker was involved in a collision with an SUV that was apparently heading north on Cimmaron Avenue, Simi Valley police officials said. Decker was also wearing a helmet. He was transported to a local hospital where he died shortly after the accident. The driver of the SUV, Jennifer Townes was not injured.
I offer my deepest condolences to the family and friends of Jeffrey Decker for their tragic and heartbreaking loss. Family members say he was a caring man and a mechanic by profession who enjoyed riding his Harley and working with computers. My heart goes out to his family members. Please keep them in your prayers.
Ventura Motorcycle Accident Statistics
According to California Highway Patrol's 2007 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), there were 13 injuries involving California motorcycle accident cases in Simi Valley. In Ventura County as a whole, five fatalities and 210 injuries were reported as a result of motorcycle accidents in 2007. Also, countywide, 71 people died and 3,993 were injured due to car accident, during that same period.
The news report does not say how this fatal car accident occurred. Who crashed into whom? Who was at fault for this accident? Was it Decker's fault? Was the driver of the SUV, Townes, negligent or reckless in some way? The accident apparently happened at a street intersection. We do not know who had the right-of-way at the intersection. It appears, from this account, that officials do not suspect Townes of criminal conduct. However, if I were a member of the victim's family, I'd want to know what exactly caused this fatal collision and if someone else's negligent actions were a factor. The Decker family has suffered a tremendous loss and deserves answers in this horrific car accident.
An Experienced California Personal Injury Lawyer Can Help
Decker's family would be well-advised to consult with a reputed California personal injury claim attorney who has experience and a successful track record of handling motorcycle accident cases. A skilled car accident attorney will also be able to determine whether a dangerous condition at that Simi Valley intersection caused or contributed to this accident. If that was the case the city or governmental agency responsible for maintaining that roadway could be held liable. Please remember that any claim against a California governmental entity must be filed with 180 days of the accident or injury.
