Two teenagers – 18-year-old Jose Gomez and a 16-year-old passenger -- suffered serious injuries in a Los Angeles car accident after their vehicle crashed into a telephone pole in Newhall the afternoon of January 26, 2010. According to a news report in The Santa Clarita Signal, Gomez and his teen passenger suffered severe head and facial injuries in the crash. Investigators say Gomez was driving a Honda Civic north on Sierra Highway when he lost control. The vehicle went over a curb and slammed into the pole. Officials believe slick road conditions could have played a part and that Gomez was doing about the 50 mph speed limit.
My heart goes out to both these young men who have suffered severe injuries in this car accident. I wish them the very best for a quick and complete recovery from their injuries. Please keep these young victims in your prayers.

Auto Product Liability Issues
Based on this news report, it is not clear exactly what caused Gomez to lose control of the car. As officials say, the slick roadway may have been one of the factors. However, I would also question whether a vehicle defect or a mechanical malfunction led to this major injury collision. Investigators are saying that the injuries these teens have suffered are consistent with injuries sustained when a vehicle occupant is not wearing a seatbelt. If I were a member of the victims' families, I would also want to know whether their severe injuries were the result of seatbelt failure.
Victims or their families, in such cases, would be well-advised to consult with an experienced Los Angeles personal injury lawyer, who will analyze all aspects of the incident and make sure the victims' legal rights and best interests are protected. In these types of accidents, the vehicle must be preserved intact in its damaged state, so an expert can thoroughly examine it for vehicle defects, malfunctions or other evidence.
