By Admin on June 19, 2010 - No comments

Occupants of a vehicle were injured in a Santa Ana car accident the morning of June 13, 2010. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the injury collision occurred near the Orangethorpe Avenue off-ramp of the northbound 57 Freeway. California Highway Patrol officials said an SUV struck a sedan, which then overturned. Occupants of the sedan were injured, but it is not clear how serious the injuries were. The male driver of the SUV fled the scene of the crash, but was arrested shortly afterward.

I hope none of the victims in this incident were seriously injured. I hope and pray they recover quickly and completely from their injuries.

Hit-and-Run Statistics

California Highway Patrol's traffic accident statistics show that there were 17,158 hit-and-run collisions that resulted in fatalities or injuries in California, in 2008. A majority of these were injury car accidents. Also, 247 people were killed in 2008 due to hit-and-run crashes statewide.

Leaving the Scene of a Crash

California Vehicle Code 20001 (a) states: "The driver of a vehicle involved in an accident resulting in injury to a person, other than himself or herself, or in the death of a person shall immediately stop the vehicle at the scene of the accident." Motorists are required to stop, remain at the scene of the accident, exchange information with the other parties and get help for those who are hurt.

Liability Issues

If the driver of the SUV is determined to have caused this accident, he could be held financially responsible for the injuries, damages and losses caused.
