San Francisco Bay Area Car Accident Kills Man

By Admin on September 30, 2009 - No comments

Junior Nelson Carrera, 26, was killed in a San Francisco car accident on the Interstate 680 on September 25, 2009 when he was waiting on the highway to get a tire fixed. According to a news report in the Contra Costa Times, Carrera and another man were in a Nissan pickup that had a flat tire. They pulled over to the side of the freeway, called for help and waited on a dirt embankment while a mechanic fixed the tire, California Highway Patrol officials said.

Around that time, a Chevy HHR collided with a PG & E boom truck causing the driver of the Chevy to crash into the embankment where Carrera and the other man were waiting. Carrera died at the scene while the other man, a 30-year-old from Concord, was hospitalized with injuries. The Chevy driver complained of pain while the mechanic and PG & E driver were uninjured.

I offer my deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Junior Nelson Carrera for their tragic and heartbreaking loss. My heart goes out to the other man who was seriously injured as well and wish him the very best for a quick and complete recovery. Please keep Carrera's family and the injured victim in your prayers.

Car Accident Statistics

According to California Highway Patrol's 2007 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), there were no fatalities but 103 injuries reported in Danville, California, as a result of car accidents. In Contra Costa County as a whole, 65 deaths and 3,722 injuries were reported in 2007 as a result of car accidents.

This tragic California car accident is a reminder to us that we should stay as far away from traffic as possible in case of a car emergency. CHP officials say it is best to get off the freeway even if it means driving on a flat tire to the shoulder or the exit. In this particular case, it would be interesting to look into who was at fault for the accident between the PG & E truck and the Chevy HHR. If the truck driver was at fault, both he and his employer could be held liable for the accident and injuries. If the driver of the Chevy caused the accident, he could be held liable for Carrera's death and his passenger's injuries.
