Paul John Rado, 62, was killed in a Riverside car accident the morning of January 19, 2010 after the company truck he was driving left Highway 189 and crashed. According to a news report in The Mountain News, Rado, an employee with Arrowhead Alarms, was returning to his company's headquarters after his morning rounds, in the Blue Jay area, when the fatal accident occurred. Rado's 2003 Ford Ranger pickup truck was located down an embankment off the roadway, and on its roof, by one of his co-workers, who went out to look for him when he did not return to work. California Highway Patrol officials said Rado was found in the driver's seat with his seatbelt in place. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
My heart goes out to Rado's family members, friends and co-workers for their devastating loss. I offer my deepest condolences to them. Please keep them in your prayers.
Riverside Car Accident Statistics
According to California Highway Patrol's 2007 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), there were 144 deaths and 3,248 injuries reported in the unincorporated areas of Riverside County involving car accidents. In Riverside County as a whole, 279 fatalities and 9,925 injuries occurred as a result of car accidents in 2007.
What Caused the Accident?
Based on this news report, it is still a mystery how or why this fatal car crash occurred. Hopefully, the autopsy will provide a few more answers as to exactly how this happened. However, if I were a member of Rado's family, I would want to know for sure what led to this fatal accident and if any negligence was involved. Did Rado suffer a medical condition while driving and then lose control of his pickup. Was there a vehicle defect or a mechanical malfunction in his Ford Ranger that caused him to go off the roadway? Was there a dangerous condition on the roadway such as debris, which he was trying to avoid? Did Rado get cut off by another vehicle or run off the roadway by another driver? These are all important questions to ask in these types of accidents.
Claim for Compensation
In this case, Rado's family will be entitled to receive worker's compensation benefits because he was on-the-job at the time of the car accident. However, they may also be able to file a third-party claim against, say, the auto maker if it is determined that an auto product defect caused this fatal accident. If a negligent driver caused it, that driver could be held liable. If the accident was the result of a dangerous or defective roadway, the governmental agency responsible for maintaining that roadway could be held liable as well.
