Orange County Car Accident Causes Injuries

By Admin on May 14, 2010 - No comments

One woman sustained injuries in an Orange car accident after her vehicle was involved in a crash with another vehicle at an intersection. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the driver of a Ford Taurus had to be extricated from her car after it was T-boned by a Nissan Altima at the intersection of Lincoln Avenue and Glassell Street the morning of May 13, 2010. The driver of the Nissan was uninjured. The driver of the Ford Taurus was transported to a local hospital with unknown injuries.

My heart goes out to the injured driver and hope she was not seriously hurt in this side-angle collision. I wish her the very best for a speedy and complete recovery. She will be in my prayers.

Car Accidents

According to California Highway Patrol's 2008 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), there were nine fatalities and 829 injuries involving car accidents in Orange. In Orange County as a whole, car accidents claimed 152 lives and injured 13,414 people during the same year.

Side-Angle Collisions

Based on the information provided in this news report, this collision occurred at a street intersection. This was a broadside or "T-bone crash," meaning it involved a collision occurring at a right angle. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), most deadly side-angle crashes in the year 2005, nationwide, were broadside crashes that occurred at street intersections.

The federal agency estimates that about 62.5 percent of all fatal side-angle crashes each year are broadside crashes. These T-bone crashes have the potential to cause catastrophic injuries or even death because the sides of vehicles are not as protected from the impact of a collision as the front or back of a vehicle. It is only recently that some vehicles have side curtain airbags to protect occupants.

Fault and Liability

In this particular case, it appears that one of the drivers may have failed to yield right-of-way or run a red light at the intersection. I trust officials are looking into who was at fault. If the driver of the Nissan was at fault, then he or she could be held financially responsible for the injuries caused to the injured driver of the Ford. In such cases, injured victims can claim compensation to cover medical expenses, cost of hospitalization, property damage, surgery, therapy and other related damages.
