A driver was injured in a car accident which officials say was caused by a driver who ran a red light at an intersection and then fled the scene of the crash. The Clear Lake Observer reports that the crash happened on April 20, 2010 at the intersection of Highway 53 and 18th Avenue in Clearlake. Police say that a driver in a silver car ran a red light and slammed into a Dodge Neon. The driver of the Neon was injured and transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. The seriousness of his injuries is not known. The vehicle that left the scene is believed to be a small, silver two-door car. The driver, officials say, was a man. But no further description was available.
I hope that the injured victim did not suffer any major injuries in this crash. I hope and pray that this hit-and run driver is apprehended and brought to justice. I wish the victim a speedy and full recovery. Please keep this person in your prayers.
Serious Violations of the Law
Based on this news report, it appears that the suspect not only ran the red light, struck the vehicle and injured the person inside, but also fled the scene of the accident. These are serious violations under California law. Failing to stop for a red light is illegal under California Vehicle Code Section 21453 (a) states: "A driver facing a circular red signal shall stop at the limit line before entering the crosswalk on the near side of the intersection or, if none, then before entering the intersection, and shall remain stopped until an indication to proceed is shown." Hit-and-run or leaving the scene of a crash is against California Vehicle Code 20001 (a).
