Man Killed in Fullerton Car Accident

By Car Accident Lawyer on December 1, 2011 - No comments

Jorge Carrillo, 46, of La Habra, was killed in an Orange County car accident when his 1991 Chevy Blazer left the roadway and struck a tree. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the fatal car accident occurred along North Harbor Boulevard near Brea Boulevard in Fullerton, the night of November 29, 2011. Officials are investigating what caused the SUV to leave the roadway and crash. Investigators are also trying to determine if alcohol, fatigue, or a medical issue contributed to the collision.

My heartfelt condolences go out to the family and friends of Jorge Carrillo following this horrific accident. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

Orange County Car Accident Statistics

According to California Highway Patrol’s 2009 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), there were five fatalities and 761 injuries reported involving Fullerton car accidents. During that same year, 141 people were killed and 13,373 were injured in Orange County car accidents.

What Caused this Tragic Accident?

Based on this news report, investigators are looking into a number of potential factors for this single vehicle accident. Officials have stated that they are considering fatigue, alcohol and a medical condition as possible causes of the crash. I trust investigators will also inspect the 1991 Chevy Blazer for auto defects or mechanical malfunctions that may have caused the vehicle to veer out of control. Chevy Blazers have a long history of being unstable vehicles that are prone to rollover accidents due to their poor design.

Liability Issues

The family of a victim killed in a single-vehicle accident would be well advised to preserve the vehicle in its damaged state so an expert can thoroughly inspect it for vehicle defects, malfunctions, and design flaws. If it is determined than an auto defect or a mechanical malfunction was a contributing factor in this crash, the auto maker can be held liable for Carillo’s wrongful death. In such cases, victims' families would find it in their best interests to contact an experienced Orange County personal injury lawyer, who will analyze all facets of the incident and ensure that the negligent parties are held liable.
