A man sustained fatal injuries in a Los Angeles car accident after he lost control of his car on the 60 Freeway in Diamond Bar the morning of November 13, 2009. According to a news report in the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin, the man who has not yet been identified, was traveling west on the 60 Freeway when his vehicle went out of control and slid off the freeway on to the right shoulder. The car then caught on fire, California Highway Patrol officials said. A passenger was transported to an area hospital with unknown injuries. CHP is investigating the cause of the fatal crash.

I offer my deepest sympathies to everyone who knew and loved this car accident victim. My heart also goes out to the passenger who was apparently injured in this car crash. I wish this injured victim the very best for a speedy and complete recovery. These victims and their families will be in my prayers.

Los Angeles Car Accidents

There were three fatalities and 407 injuries involving car accidents in Diamond Bar, California, according to CHP's 2007 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS). Countywide, 712 deaths and 56,475 injuries were reported in 2007 as a result of car accidents.

Based on this news report, it is not clear how or why this driver lost control of his vehicle. The news report does not state that the driver was intoxicated or fatigued at the time. Was there a vehicle defect or a mechanical malfunction in the vehicle, which caused him to lose control? Did the driver suffer a medical condition? Was this accident the result of a dangerous or defective roadway? Was the victim run off the road by another driver? The answers to these and other similar questions should help determine whether there was any negligence involved here.

Liability Issues in Car Accidents

If this accident was the result of an auto product defect, the auto maker or the manufacturer of the defective auto product could be held liable. If another driver's negligence or recklessness caused this fatal car accident, then he or she could be held responsible for the accident and the resulting injuries. If a dangerous roadway is found to have led to the crash then, the governmental agency responsible for maintaining the roadway could also be held liable. In car accidents where there are serious injuries or fatalities involved, victims and their families would be well-advised to contact a reputed Los Angeles personal injury attorney, who will make sure their legal rights are protected and that they receive fair compensation for their injuries, damages and loss.
