Los Angeles Pedestrian Accident Seriously Injuries Man In Freeway Hit-and-Run Collision

By Admin on June 9, 2009 - No comments

A man suffered serious injuries in a Los Angles pedestrian accident on the 60 Freeway in Pomona the night of June 8, 2009, Fox News reports. The man was struck by a motorist when he had apparently got off a car and became sick on the side of the Phillips Ranch off-ramp. California Highway Patrol officials said the man was riding in a car with his girlfriend and had asked her to pull over to the right shoulder near the off-ramp because he felt ill. The man then walked toward the off-ramp and was vomiting on the right shoulder when he was struck by a black Mercedes Benz exiting the freeway.

The impact sent the man flying back, over the Mercedes and across the off-ramp lanes. The driver of the Mercedes never stopped. The victim was taken to an area hospital with critical personal injuries. CHP officials identify the Mercedes as black, possibly customized with tinted windows. It may have some front-end damage to the right headlight. The car's "spider web-type" grills were also left at the scene. If you saw this Los Angeles hit-and-run car accident or have more information, please call the CHP at 1-888-TELL-CHP or their Santa Fe Springs office at 562-868-0503.

I deeply sympathize with the man who was struck and seriously injured in this hit-and-run car accident. I wish him the very best for a quick and complete recovery. Please keep him in your prayers. I sincerely hope the hit-and-run driver in this case is apprehended and brought to justice. The driver of the Mercedes was obviously not paying attention to the man who was on the shoulder. However, California law states that regardless of whose fault a traffic accident is, a driver must stop at the scene of an pedestrian-car accident.

California Vehicle Code section 20001 (a) states: "The driver of a vehicle involved in an accident resulting in injury to a person, other than himself or herself, or in the death of a person shall immediately stop the vehicle at the scene of the accident."

The victim and his family would be well advised to contact experienced Los Angeles personal injury attorneys who will help determine the facts of this case and identify the negligent parties. The victim may be able to get compensated through the uninsured/underinsured motorist clause in his car insurance policy or any other policy that he has benefits under. A knowledgeable car accident attorney will be able to make sure that the victim's rights are protected and that he gets the compensation he rightfully deserves.
