The Newport Beach personal injury law firm of BISNAR | CHASE will represent two out of 10 people who were injured in the Pony Express ride at Knott's Berry Farm on October 7, 2010. Our client, whom we will refer to as "Bob" to protect his protect his privacy, said his father and his girlfriend's mother were all on the ride that night. Bob calls his experience "scary" to say the least.
Ride Accident
The three of them got into the first car of the Pony Express. Once they were buckled in, the ride shot up at 25 to 30 mph. It was at that point that Bob heard something go "snap." The car rolled back and crashed into a train into which people were still being loaded. Bob says nine of those injured were in his car.
Bob said he was already hurting from the impact.
"We were up there for about 35 minutes," he said. His girlfriend's mother was given a ladder to come down from the train, but he and many others had to climb over several parts of the ride to get down.
"I was aching all over," he said. "I was afraid I was going to fall down and hurt myself more seriously. I was the last one out of the train."
Cost of Injuries Can Add Up
He and others injured in this amusement park accident were then transported by ambulance to local hospitals. Bob says days after the accident, he can still barely stand up. His neck and back continue to hurt as do his knees. Bob says he works as a security guard for an apartment complex and that he is not going to be able to return to work when he is supposed to, this week.
"I need to be on my feet for an eight-hour shift," he said. "I don't feel like I can do that right now."
Bob said he decided to call an Orange County personal injury lawyer because he was getting no response from Knott's Berry Farm representatives, who initially seemed eager to help.
"I don't have medical insurance," he said. "It's going to be a challenge for me to pay for my own treatment and it doesn't seem as if (Knott's) is going to help."
Bob's story is similar to many others who suffer injuries in amusement park rides. The media usually tend to report soft tissue injuries as "minor." These are still injuries that cost a lot of money to treat. Medication, rehabilitation and physical therapy costs can add up quickly. It is imperative that injured victims in such cases get prompt medical attention and contact an injury lawyer who will advise them about their legal rights and options.
