An off-duty California Highway Patrol officer was injured in a Fresno car accident involving a hit-and-run driver. CBS News reports that that the motorcycle hit-and-run accident occurred near the intersection of Herndon Avenue and Palm Street. Police are looking for the suspect vehicle, which they say is a silver Toyota Tundra pickup truck. The off-duty CHP officer suffered leg injuries and was taken to a hospital for treatment.

My heart goes out to the officer and I hope the injuries he suffered are not serious. I pray that he recovers quickly and completely.

Hit-and-Run Car Accidents

According to California Highway Patrol's traffic accident statistics, there were 17,158 hit-and-run car accidents that resulted in fatalities or injuries in California in 2008. Holding Wrongdoers Accountable

It is appalling that the driver of this pickup truck struck the motorcyclist and fled immediately without even looking back to see what he or she had done. This individual left the victim lying on the roadway without help or medical attention. Despicable! I trust officials will soon apprehend this hit-and-run driver and bring him or her to justice.
