Two people were injured in a Fresno car accident after a female driver lost control of a Chevy Blazer SUV and crashed on the Highway 41. According to a CBS news report, the injury accident occurred the morning of March 10, 2010 near Shields, as the Blazer traveled down an onramp to enter the northbound lanes of the highway. The back end of the SUV lost traction on the rain-slicked pavement, California Highway Patrol officials said. The driver then overcorrected and went into the number one lane and hit a Honda Accord head-on. The Blazer rolled over, coming to rest on its roof. The driver of the Honda sustained more serious injuries than the driver of the SUV and was transported to the hospital.
I'm relieved to hear that neither one of the drivers sustained serious or life-threatening injuries. I wish them both the very best for a speedy and complete recovery. Please keep them in your prayers.
Fresno Car Accident Statistics
According to California Highway Patrol's 2008 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), there were 33 fatalities and 1,485 injuries involving car accidents in Fresno, California. In Fresno County as a whole, 127 fatalities and 3,323 injuries were reported as a result of car accidents in 2008.
What Caused the Accident?
Based on this news report, the accident occurred because the driver of the Chevy Blazer lost control of her SUV. I trust officials are looking into whether she was going too fast at the time given the wet roadway conditions. Such SUV rollover accidents also occur because of defective vehicle design and inherent vehicle defects. SUVs such as the Chevy Blazer have the propensity to tip over even at moderate speeds. It is important to determine if that is what occurred here. A thorough examination of the vehicle by an expert will help establish whether there were any auto product defects or mechanical malfunctions that caused or contributed to this accident.
Claim for Compensation
If this accident is determined to have been the fault of the SUV's driver, then the driver of the Honda will be able seek compensation from the driver of the Blazer. In such cases, injured victims can seek compensation to cover medical expenses, lost wages, cost of hospitalization, rehabilitation, physical therapy and other related damages. Injured victims and their families would be well-advised to seek the counsel of an experienced Fresno personal injury lawyer, who will better inform them about their legal rights and options.
