A man was killed in a San Diego car accident the morning of December 3, 2009 after the pickup truck he was driving collided with another vehicle on the Interstate 8 and crashed. According to a 10news report, the driver lost control of his 1990 Toyota pickup truck for unknown reasons. California Highway Patrol officials said the truck swerved to the right and crashed into a 2004 Dodge Ram, which then struck a 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The Toyota went off the freeway, down an embankment and plowed through a chain link fence before rolling over and coming to rest on its side. The pickup driver, who has not yet been identified, was pronounced dead at the scene. The drivers of the other vehicles were, fortunately, not injured.
My heart goes out to the family and friends of this driver who has been tragically killed in this car crash. I offer my deepest sympathies to everyone who knew and loved this man. They will be in my prayers.
San Diego Car Accidents
There were 84 deaths and 6,516 injuries involving car accidents reported in the city of San Diego in 2007, according to CHP's traffic accident statistics. In San Diego County as a whole, 268 people were killed and 14,641 were injured as a result of car accidents in 2007.
Based on this news report, CHP officials suspect that the truck may have been traveling at a high rate of speed, but that is still under investigation. In such a fatal injury case, there are usually many questions regarding the cause of the accident. Did a vehicle defect or a mechanical malfunction cause it? Was there debris on the roadway that made the driver swerve or was there some other dangerous condition? Was another driver involved, for example, did this driver get cut off by another motorist, which caused him to swerve?
Auto Product Liability Issues
These are important questions to ask because it helps determine whether there was negligence or wrongdoing on the part of someone other than the injured victim. In such incidents, seriously injured victims or their families would be well-advised to seek the counsel of a reputed personal injury attorney in San Diego, who has successfully handled a variety of auto product liability cases.
If an auto product defect is suspected, the involved vehicle must be preserved in its current condition so it can be thoroughly examined by an expert for evidence of defects or malfunctions.
