A teen driver is facing vehicular manslaughter charges in connection with a
Sacramento car accident that killed Christine Ingle, 45, on February 16, 2010. KXTV reports that Travis Moore, 19, is facing these serious criminal charges after officials say he drove past a stop sign, in his Mercedes SUV, at the intersection of C and 16th streets and crashed into Ingle's Ford Explorer SUV. Ingle was partially ejected from the SUV in spite of wearing a seatbelt, and killed. Three other teens in the Mercedes were critically injured in the crash.
I offer my deepest condolences to everybody who knew and loved Christine Ingle for their tragic and heartbreaking loss. They will be in my prayers.
Car Accident Statistics
According to CHP's 2008 traffic accident statistics, there were there were 28 fatalities and 3,566 injuries involving car accidents in Sacramento. Countywide, car accidents claimed 84 lives and injured 7,874 people during the same year.
Laws and Liability Issues
In this particular case, officials say, Moore also ran a stop sign. He has been charged with reckless driving and gross vehicular manslaughter. Alcohol or drugs were not a factor. California law requires drivers to come to a complete stop at a stop sign and proceed with caution. According to California Vehicle Code section 21802 (a): "The driver of any vehicle approaching a stop sign at the entrance to, or within, an intersection shall stop as required by Section 22450. The driver shall then yield the right-of-way to any vehicles which have approached from another highway, or which are approaching so closely as to constitute an immediate hazard, and shall continue to yield the right-of-way to those vehicles until he or she can proceed with reasonable safety."
In such cases, victims or their families would be well-advised to get in touch with a skilled personal injury attorney in Sacramento, who will make sure that Moore is also held civilly liable for Ingle's wrongful death. A wrongful death claim is usually filed by family members of the deceased victims and seeks compensation to cover medical or funeral expenses, lost future earnings, loss of love and companionship, and other damages.
