Dangerous roads and speeding cause Anaheim car accidents
April 9th, 2009 | JoyceSpeeding and dangerous roads are recurring factors in many Anaheim car accidents. In 2004, there were 31 fatal car crashes in Anaheim involving 52 cars and 84 people. The majority of autos involved in those car accidents were traveling at an average speed of 65 mph. As recently as 2006, 38 people were killed and 2,210 injured in Anaheim car collisions. Alcohol related car accidents accounted for 16 fatalities and 168 injuries.
Residents living near the intersection of Nohl Ranch Road and Meats Avenue say the road is definitely dangerous and drivers often ignore the posted speed limit of 35 mph. One area resident called this road among the most dangerous in Orange County. In 2006, a truck driver lost control of his vehicle, killing a local optometrist and injuring six others near the intersection of Imperial Highway and Nohl Ranch Road. Two years later, two young men were killed when their speeding car crossed the road's center divider, colliding with a car coming in the opposite direction.
In response to these car accidents, Anaheim has installed two new pedestrian traffic signals and four radar speed signs on Sunkist Street between Ball Road and South Street for James Guinn and Benito Juarez Elementary Schools. Part of the Caltrans Safe Routes to School Program, the plan also included a traffic signal and two radar speed signs on Riverdale Avenue between Finch Street and Lakeview Avenue for Riverdale Elementary School.
