Three people were injured in an October 26, 2009 car accident in Orange County after a Toyota Camry and a Mercury Mountaineer collided at the intersection of Lincoln Avenue and State College Boulevard in Anaheim. According to a news article in The Orange County Register, the Camry was going east on Lincoln and was making a left onto State College. The Mountaineer was traveling west on Lincoln through the intersection. The Mountaineer rolled over on impact and the female driver was taken to a local hospital with injuries. Two people in the Camry were also injured.
I hope none of the injured victims in this car crash suffered major injuries. I wish them all the very best for a quick and complete recovery. Please keep these victims in your prayers.
Car Accidents in Anaheim
According to California Highway Patrol's Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), 30 fatalities and 1,006 injuries were reported as a result of Anaheim car accidents. In Orange County as a whole, 178 fatalities and 14,185 injuries were reported as a result of car accidents, during the same period.
In this particular case, the news account does not mention which one of the vehicles had the right-of-way at the intersection. Apparently an eyewitness told police that the Mountaineer may have entered the intersection on a red light, but traffic investigators are yet to confirm that report. If the driver of the Mountaineer did run the red light, then she could be held liable for the injuries and damages caused to the other injured victims.
California Car Accident Laws
Running a red light is a serious traffic violation in California. There are various California Vehicle Code sections that are part of what we commonly refer to as "rules of the road." These code sections address motorists' behavior at intersections, especially those controlled by traffic signals. California Vehicle Code Section 21453 (a) states: "A driver facing a circular red signal shall stop at the limit line before entering the crosswalk on the near side of the intersection or, if none, then before entering the intersection, and shall remain stopped until an indication to proceed is shown."
If it turns out that the driver of the Camry ran a red light or was negligent, then he or she could be held liable for the injuries and damages caused to the driver of the Mountaineer. A lot could depend on eyewitness reports and the outcome of the investigation. That is why it is critical that car accident victims promptly seek the advice of a reputed Orange County personal injury lawyer, who will give them more information about their legal rights and options. If you are the victim of a car accident caused by a negligent driver, you can seek compensation to cover medical bills, loss of wages and other related damages.
