A 13-year-old boy, who was alone when three burglars broke into his Fullerton home, quickly alerted police, who captured one of the suspects, The Orange County Register reports. Officials say the three suspects entered the house on December 27, 2011 thinking no one was home. The suspects initially knocked on the door, but the boy did not open the door because he did not know the individuals. The burglars then went into the backyard and entered the house from there. The boy hid inside the home and called 911. The suspects fled in their car as officers responded with lights and sirens. Officers pursued them and were able to apprehend a man when the car collided with another vehicle and a fire hydrant in La Mirada. Police arrested 23-year-old Deon William Oden on suspicion of burglary, felony evading, felony hit-and-run and other charges. Two other suspects, a man and a woman, are at large. If you have any information, please contact the Fullerton Police Department at 714-738-6716.
Defending against Intruders
I commend this boy for his bravery and presence of mind in the midst of what was certainly an intimidating, and potentially dangerous situation. I'm relieved to hear that he was not injured or harmed.
This incident serves as another reminder to us to be wary of what police call "knock-knock burglars." Police say these types of operations are becoming increasingly common in the area. They ask that residents let those knocking on the door know that they are home, depending on the situation.
Our Appreciation of This Brave Act
The Newport Beach personal injury law firm of BISNAR CHASE would like to reward this young man's quick thinking and courage with tickets to a Lakers game for him and a parent. The child's parents may contact our office at 949-752-2999 and we will get them a pair of Lakers tickets! We will also keep the boy's identity confidential.
Our firm, in addition to providing these tickets to children with disabilities, also gives them to encourage, motivate, and reward "hero kids" like this 13-year-old boy in Fullerton. While we simply provide the tickets, a parent or a guardian must accompany the child and take care of his or her needs, including transportation. We will have a member of our firm meet them at Staples Center and hand them the tickets.
We routinely allocate a few Lakers tickets each month for children with disabilities, especially children in wheelchairs who, otherwise, may not get to go to such a cost-prohibitive game. Staples Center is extremely accommodating to people with disabilities. If you have a child with a disability, or know of a child with a disability, or even know a child who has shown courage and heroism, please call us. When you contact us, please tell us about the child, his or her disability, or act of courage and heroism. Every month of the regular Lakers season, we will get a few of these children a pair of tickets to see a game.
