Fatal Los Angeles Car Accident

Emerald Arias, 18, was killed in a Los Angeles car accident after the car in which she was a passenger, stalled on the freeway and was struck by another vehicle. According to a news report in The Santa Clarita Signal, the fatal car accident occurred the morning of December 30, 2009, on the 5 Freeway in Santa Clarita. Arias was a passenger in a 1999 Honda Civic, which ran out of gas and became disabled in the number three lane. A Toyota Tercel rear-ended the Civic. Both Arias and the driver of the Civic, a 46-year-old woman, were trapped in the vehicle. A Daewoo then crashed into the Tercel. Arias died later from her injuries. New Law Requires Ignition Interlock Devices For California DUI Offenders

Worker Killed in San Diego Industrial Accident

Alberto Herrera-Garcia, 54, sustained fatal personal injuries in a San Diego on-the-job accident, the morning of December 24, 2009, the San Diego Union-Tribune reports. Herrera-Garcia was apparently unloading 20-foot long wooden beams from a forklift, when the load shifted off the forklift and fell on him, at the industrial site on Marconi Drive, the San Diego County Medical Examiner's report states. The blow knocked Herrera-Garcia backward and he hit his head and suffered serious head trauma. He died shortly after the accident. Herrera-Garcia was also the driver of the truck, which was carrying the lumber. Investigators are looking into what caused the load to shift and fall on the victim. Read the rest »

 

Suspected Drunk Driver Causes Orange County Car Accident

Two people were injured in an Orange County car accident after a suspected drunk driver drove her car into oncoming traffic and caused a collision on Bake Parkway, in Lake Forest. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the DUI car accident occurred the night of December 22, 2009 shortly after police received reports that a driver was going the wrong way on Bake. The driver who was identified as 56-year-old Rebecca Hall ended up crashing her car into three other vehicles. Hall as well as one of the people in the other cars was injured. San Diego Car Accident Injures Motorcyclist

A motorcyclist was seriously injured in a San Diego car accident after he was hit by an SUV on the southbound 15 Freeway in Fallbrook, the afternoon of December 19, 2009. According to a report in The Village News, a 34-year-old man was driving a Honda motorcycle on the freeway when suddenly his motorcycle lost power. He then started changing lanes to move his slowing vehicle over to the right shoulder. It was then that the rear of his motorcycle was struck by a Hummer SUV driven by a 51-year-old woman. The man was ejected from the motorcycle and landed on the freeway, which caused his leg to be partially severed. The driver of the Hummer was uninjured. Elderly Man Killed in San Diego Car Accident

An elderly man was killed in a San Diego car accident after he was struck by an out-of-control vehicle while getting into his parked pickup truck. According to a news report in the San Diego Union-Tribune, the man had just left his Escondido home on Begonia Street near East Mission Avenue, the afternoon of December 23, 2009, and was getting into his truck, which was parked at the curb. That was when, Escondido police say, a Honda Accord drifted across the road and struck him. After striking the man, the Honda continued down the road and struck another parked vehicle before coming to a stop. The critically injured victim was taken to an area hospital where he later died of major blunt force trauma. Police say alcohol does not seem to be a factor in this fatal accident. Teenager Killed in San Bernardino Car Accident

Deanae Weatherall, 17, was killed in a San Bernardino car accident after she was struck by a car while walking on Outer Highway 18 in Apple Valley, California. According to a news report in the Victorville Daily Press, Deanae was walking along the roadway the evening of December 20, 2009, when the vehicle hit her. The female driver stayed at the scene of the crash. Deanae was airlifted to a regional hospital where she died from the injuries. San Bernardino County Sheriff's officials are saying alcohol or drugs were not involved, but an investigation is ongoing.
