Ashly Watson, 21, was killed in a San Bernardino car accident after her car crashed head-on into a big-rig on Highway 62 in Morongo Valley, California the evening of August 26, 2009. According to a news report in the San Bernardino Sun, Watson was driving a 2008 Honda west near Scholl Road when she veered into the center turn lane and into oncoming traffic. The Honda struck the truck head on. Watson died at the scene, California Highway Patrol officials said. The driver of the tractor-trailer, 51-year-old Glen Boren, sustained minor injuries. Two people were injured in a Ventura car accident the morning of August 27, 2009. According to a news report in the Ventura County Star, the car collision occurred near the intersection of East 5th Street and Rice Avenue in Oxnard, California. When the initial two-car accident occurred, one man was trapped in his pickup that had been pushed on to nearby railroad tracks. One person was injured in the other vehicle. A Metrolink train then came through the intersection and hit the vehicle that was left on the tracks, Oxnard fire officials said. Read the rest »

Gregorio Bejar Valencia, 64, was killed in a hit-and-run San Diego car accident the morning of August 25, 2009, after he was struck by a driver at an on-ramp to State Route 94 in Golden Hill, according to the San Diego Medical Examiner's Office. California Highway Patrol officials say Valencia was driving a 1988 Chevy pickup truck, which he stopped on the highway's right shoulder so he could clean the windshield. While Valencia and his passenger, 43-year-old Francisco Mendoza, were cleaning the windshield, a 1989 Nissan Sentra struck the left rear of the truck and Valencia. Read the rest »

A driver was injured in a San Francisco car accident involving a Muni Metro train the afternoon of August 24, 2009, the San Francisco Chronicle reports. The inbound L Taraval train was on Taraval Street when it collided with the car heading south on 34th Avenue. The male driver of the car, who was not identified, was taken to San Francisco General Hospital with injuries. Officials say they do not know yet what caused this collision. There are stop signs at the intersection for traffic on 34th Avenue, but not for traffic on Taraval. Read the rest »

At least three people were injured--two critically--in an August 21, 2009 Orange County car accident, which officials say was caused by a suspected drunk driver. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, 33-year-old Richard Hildreth was driving his Dodge Durango in the FasTrak lane of the eastbound 91 Freeway in Anaheim when he rear-ended a Hyundai Elantra driven by a 57-year-old woman that spun out to the right shoulder.

A female pit bull was turned over to authorities after a fatal Orange County dog bite attack where a little terrier was brutally mauled to death. According to a news report in the Dana Point Times, resident Mary Bestgen was walking her terrier on August 10, 2009, near Baby Beach in Dana Point, when a loose pit bull suddenly charged, grabbed the little terrier and began mauling it. A group of men came to her aid and finally freed the terrier from the pit bull's hold. Read the rest »

Diego Barron, 20, was killed in a Ventura car accident the morning of August 15, 2009 after losing control of his car and crashing. According to a news report in the Ventura County Star, Barron was eastbound in the fast lane of the Highway 118 near Sycamore Drive in Simi Valley, California, when his car hit the dirt center divider. It then jumped back to the right shoulder of the freeway, rolled several times and went down the side embankment before hitting a tree branch and a chain link fence, California Highway Patrol officials said.

Alyssa Nicole Randles, 22, was killed in a San Bernardino car accident early morning on August 16, 2009 after a suspected drunk driver made a left turn in front of her car at an intersection in Ontario, California. According to a news report in the San Gabriel Valley Tribune, police have not yet recommended any criminal charges against 23-year-old Jeffrey Gonzalez because they have not completed the investigation. Gonzalez had fled the scene of the accident and was arrested when officers found him hiding nearby. Police suspect Gonzalez was under the influence of alcohol when he turned his pickup truck left at the intersection of Euclid and Schaefer avenues and struck Randles' Volkswagen. Read the rest »
