The hugely popular Surf Fest will be staged by the Sons of the American Legion Post 291 located at 215 15th Street, Newport Beach (Balboa Peninsula) and is set for Saturday July 18, 2009 from 12:00 noon until 10:00 pm.
"Surf Fest is the Legion's largest annual fundraiser with a long-standing reputation for getting the funds directly to our U.S. troops and their families," said Orange County personal injury attorney John Bisnar. "We wanted to support this effort in a big way."
Best Chili and BBQ in Town
This is a must-attend event for serious chili lovers and BBQ enthusiasts. Newport's favorite restaurants will be hosting chili booths and other tasty treats. Several giant BBQs will be serving up delicious meals. A total of 40 food booths will be open, including a Beer Garden. Bisnar | Chase's chili booth will feature homegrown recipes from the firm's paralegal and Legion Post 291 Auxiliary member, Sandy Smith. "This is my first-ever chili cook-off," said Smith. "I'll probably resort to one of my family's favorites--an Austin Texas Red or a Southwest recipe. Both are not too hot and are full of flavor."
Biggest Names in Surf Music to Perform
Visitors to this year's Surf Fest will delight to some of the hottest surf groups in the country. Performing classic favorites will be surf music legends like The Fabulous Nomads, The Surfaris, The Chantays, HONK and Adrian Tapa on sax. Attendees will also be treated to such classic surf movies as Endless Summer and Five Summer Stories. The entire event will be simulcast by KOCI abroad through the Internet and on The Armed Forces Radio Network.
Classic Cars Galore
Car enthusiasts will love the festival's Classic Car Show. About 30 classic cars and hot rods from the Surf Era will be displayed, including Woodies, Nomads, Vettes and Surf Buses. Those who have vintage vehicles from the surf era are encouraged to become a Surf Fest sponsor, wax up their cars and show them off at this year's Surf Fest. Bisnar | Chase will feature a classic 1941 Ford Pickup with a gleaming chartreuse paint job.
