Mother of Two Teens Geared Up for Second 7-Day AIDS/LifeCycle Trek

Newport Beach, CA (PRWEB) June 25, 2009

With the support of her husband and two teen sons, full-time Mission Viejo mom, Loree Glenn decided to repeat last year's grueling 7-day AIDS/LifeCycle bike trek from San Francisco to Los Angeles. The ride began May 31st and concluded June 6th 2009. The California personal injury attorneys of Bisnar | Chase (www.BestAttorney.com ) contributed to last year's event and was Loree's corporate sponsor for this year's ride.

Last Year's Ride--a Life-Changing Experience

"I faced this challenge last year, in January 2008, during my first AIDS/LifeCycle ride," said Loree. "I went from no cycling to 545 miles of cycling in just a few months." In that ride, Loree had to deal with two bad knees and a stomach flu that sent her to the hospital, but she finally finished the event.

"I wanted to really enjoy the experience this time," said Loree. "When you have roughly 3,000 people coming together to serve one purpose, it's pretty amazing. People wear funny outfits and it's a lot of fun at camp afterward, plus you're raising money for a great cause." Co-produced by the L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center and the San Francisco AIDS Foundation, the AIDS/LifeCycle ride is designed to end the pandemic and human suffering caused by AIDS.

Loree was motivated and deeply dedicated to ride this race again. It was an extremely personal, mental and physical challenge--to leave her comfortable family life behind for a week and push the limits of her endurance. "We all viewed her participation in the first ride as a life-changing event for Loree," said husband Kevin who took over the busy chores of running the household during his wife's 7-day ride.

Applying Lessons Learned to this Year's Ride

Last year's experience taught Loree to eat correctly and hydrate often. She also trained a lot harder and longer this time around--almost a year versus just four months last year. Her training included riding along sections of the 1984 Olympic bicycle route in Mission Viejo, an average of three or four times a week, plus some yoga and pilates.

Lots of Support for Riders

Cycling hours for the AIDS/LifeCycle were from 6:30 am to 7:00 pm--except for the final day. Traffic Roadies helped point riders in the right direction. Route Support included rest stops with food, drinks, bike mechanics, medical support, toilet facilities at frequent intervals, a lunch stop at about mid-day, and sweep vehicles throughout the route (to pick up riders who fall too far behind to make it to next rest stop). Overnight tents were supplied, and riders were served a hot breakfast and dinner daily in camp, plus a bagged lunch and plenty of snacks.

A Huge Personal Challenge

Several people rode in groups of 20 or so, Loree teamed up with a friend and others she'd met on the route. "Some people look at this as a race, but I saw it as an endurance run and a huge personal challenge," said Loree. "I just wanted to finish and do better than last year." One of the most challenging parts of the race was overcoming two back-to-back hills--known as the "evil twins." One day she rode 94 miles. She ran into some gravel at one point and fell off her bike. This slowed her down and she dropped back so far that a sweep vehicle had to pick her up and drive her to a rest area. At the end, her two teen boys were waiting for her at the finish line with signs they'd made for her. Will she ride again next year? "My friend and I have already signed up, we're gluttons for punishment," laughed Loree.
