Abbott Recalls Similac Powered Baby Formulas for Possible Beetle Presence
A recall has been issued for Similac baby formulas in the U.S., Puerto Rico, Guam and some countries in the Caribbean. Following an internal quality review, Abbott made a voluntary recall of the baby formula because some of the formula may contain a small common beetle.
The FDA has determined that the presence of the beetles does not pose an immediate health risk. There are concerns that babies who consume the product may experience symptoms of gastrointestinal discomfort and possible refuse to eat due to insect parts irritating the gastrointestinal tract.
All powdered Similac baby formulas in the rectangle plastic cups are included in the current recall. These baby formulas can be found in the following sizes.
- 8-ounce
- 22-ounce
- 1.45-ounce
- 2.12-ounce
None of the Abbott liquid baby formulas are included in this recall. You can search to see if your lot number is included in the recall by visiting http://similac.com/recall/lookup.aspx. See product liability for more recall information. Visit also food poisoning.
