Huntington Beach, California, Busiest Intersections

Even in Surf City, California, being involved in a catastrophic injury case is pretty common. According to O.C.T.A. (Orange County Transportation Authority), Huntington Beach is host to four of the County's top 25 busiest intersections, making your chances of avoiding a car accident that much smaller.

The constant theme of Huntington Beach's busiest intersections is that they are all on Beach Boulevard. Beach Boulevard, the main street during the inception of Huntington Beach, was originally a cattle route for the main industry of the city's original prospects. Today Beach Boulevard is still a beehive of activity and continues to pose several problems for drivers, including safety.

Beach Boulevard and Warner Avenue

The intersection of Beach Boulevard and Warner Avenue in Huntington Beach is the second busiest intersection with an average of 107,500 vehicles per day. There were 16 traffic collisions in this intersection in 2007, 13 in 2008 and 17 in 2009, according to Huntington Beach transportation manager Bob Stachelski.

Recently, a 78-year-old woman sustained critical injuries at this very intersection. Huntington Beach police officials say the injury collision occurred at the intersection of Beach Boulevard and Warner Avenue when a 1990 Acura driven by an 84-year-old man struck a female pedestrian. The pedestrian accident victim was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. An investigation is ongoing.

California law requires drivers to yield to pedestrians legally crossing the street in crosswalks and at intersections. California Vehicle Code Section 21950 states: "The driver of a vehicle shall yield the right-of-way to a pedestrian crossing the roadway within any marked crosswalk or within any unmarked crosswalk at an intersection." Unfortunately, most people don't abide by this law and in their hurry to get from point A to point B they could destroy lives.
